Teaser recipes from "Guy Fieri Food"

Guy Fieri Food: Cookin' It, Livin' It, Lovin' It is formally released today, and we've collected a few of the 150 Guy Fieri recipes from the new cookbook.

Guy Fieri's cutlery partner, ErgoChef.com, shared Firecracker Wings in their blog.

Chicken wings, chili-garlic sauce, soy sauce, sriracha sauce, vinegar and ginger are combined and grilled.

Firecracker wings aren't new, but this recipe from Guy Fieri is.

I gotta tell ya, I used to think that wings had to be fried. (Probably because most grilled wings are burned and chewy and lack flavor.) So I set out to make some that will rock ’n’ roll without getting fried. - Guy Fieri

Guy's affiliation with NBC (Minute to Win It) prompted MSNBC.com to share two recipes, Sangria Glazed Shrimp and Johnny Garlic's Grilled Peppered Tri-tip with Cabernet-balasmic Reduction and Fried Baby Spinach.

Shrimp are glazed with a full-bodied red wine, apple juice, orange juice, sherry, brown sugar and honey and cooked with onion, red bell pepper and a green apple.

This recipe was first seen on Guy's Big Bite in 2007.

And a tri-tip (or flank steak) is cut and grilled with peppercorns, minced red onion, garlic, cabernet sauvignon, balsamic vinegar and a bit of dark brown sugar.

Select Costcos are selling a marinaded Guy Fieri tri-tip; check your local store.

This recipe was featured on the Sonoma Steer episode of Guy's Big Bite in 2007.

Yahoo.com released Guy's S'more Pizza as their teaser recipe. A dessert pizza, with chocolate, marshmallows, slivered almonds, graham crackers, chili and cayenne pepper.

Chili and cayenne add a "kicker" that will make you make you think you're sitting at the campfire. - Guy Fieri

Guy made this dessert pizza on the Pizza, Pizza! episode of Guy's Big Bite with his buddy Stretch, of Grinders in Kansas City, MO. It was also featured in a segment on Good Morning America with Guy Fieri in 2009. It's a fan favorite!

Galtime.com posted Ginger Pork Potstickers, with an offer to win a free copy of "Guy Fieri Food!" Click here for sweepstakes details and for more sneak peek recipes this week.

Ground pork is blended with onion, ginger, soy sauce, garlic and green onion, wrapped, boiled and browned.

This recipe was featured on Guy's Big Bite, Amazin' Asian. When learning Japanese cooking, Guy recalls, "let’s get the food processor and chop that ginger!" but that wasn’t how it was done. Working with her gave me a lot of perspective about how food is respected in Japan. It was a very calming experience, and that’s part of what makes Japanese food work and come together so beautifully.

Lastly, Cooking.com shares Guy's recipe for Grilled Romaine with Blue Cheese-Bacon Vinaigrette, featured from the very 1st season of Guy's Big Bite, Bloody Mary Steaks.

Fan questions, Mid-April 2011

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month (and sometimes half-way thru!), I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them. [Some answers are edited for brevity. ~D]

Phil from Seattle asked, "When will season 5 be out on DVD?"

Our answer: We haven't heard a whisper about release dates for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives DVD's; we only find out about them once they're released.

Season 5 premiered in October of '08 and ran through March of '09. If Food Network continues to release DVD's at the same rate they have in the past, we expect to see Season 5 available for purchase in about 6 months. Keep an eye out on Food Network Store for Guy Fieri DVD's. Sorry we couldn't be more help than that!

--------------------------------------------------

Lauren of New York wrote, "Hii! My boyfriend is a hugggee fan of diners, drive-ins and dives and for his 30th bday I wanted to plan a road trip in the NY, NJ, CT area where we can hit up some of Guys taped or soon to be taped spots. ...would it be possible to get a list of Guys fav's in that area which would help me to schedule my trip route??"

Our answer: Ooo! Great birthday idea! We don't have the taping schedule for DDD that far out yet, sorry. :( But you've picked three really great states for a DDD road trip. Let's see.

Guy was just in New York in October 2010, around the Long Island, Queens area. More information about the New York state locations, click here.

The New Jersey Diner Tour is a fan favorite episode, where Guy visited 7 classic Jersey diners; following in those footsteps would be hard to go wrong. Guy visited New Jersey again in August 2010. Click here for all the New Jersey DDD's.

Guy hasn't taped in Connecticut in forever! Connecticut DDD's listed here.

--------------------------------------------------

Lee from Washington DC wrote, "There was a recipe for goulash using flank steak that aired recently. Can anyone help w/that? I know the woman cut it into diamond shapes (possibly to help tenderize it) & she marinated it overnight in a spice mixture that included sweet paprika & curry powder, but I don't remember the other ingredients. She cooked it at 450 but, again, can't remember how long. See why I need help?"

Our answer: I wondered if that wasn't from Kramarczuk Sausage Company in Minneapolis, MN? But that recipe uses pork, not flank steak. You have me stumped! Anyone want to take a shot at this one?

--------------------------------------------------

Joe Mast of Gravios Mills wrote, "How do I get Guy to come check out a place at Lake of the Ozarks,Its a little dive called Big Dicks Halfway Inn. Home of the minnow shot, yep we shoot minnows in shots. Got a burger called Dicks pounder, Its huge.Just a fun little place at the lake, I think it would be great for the show."

Our answer: Hilarious! Well, let's see. I think the first thing to find out is if the restaurant makes their food from scratch, never frozen or pre-packaged. All dishes featured must be made in-house using fresh ingredients. For example, gravies and sauces must be made from scratch.

If they make "real deal" food, then you should send your suggestion to www.pageprod.com or email DDDinfo@mac.com.

--------------------------------------------------

Renee' of Mishawaka wrote, "I believe Guy was at a BBQ place and I know it was late March when the episode aired. They were making a pizza with garlic butter, spinach two unique cheeses, more spinach, maybe onion and I thought some BBQ pork on top. I wanted to know where that was and what the unique cheese was?"

Our answer: I believe you're describing the spinach & goat cheese pizza at

Pizzeria Luigi - website

(619) 233-3309
www.pizzerialuigi.com

Here's the video, www.youtube.com; the spinach pizza starts right about the 4:40 mark.

--------------------------------------------------

Nancy from Windsor, ON Canada asked, "What goes on as far as performance on the Guy Fieri tour?"

Our answer: If this tour is similar to the Guy Fieri Road Show in 2009, expect a local chef to open the show with a cooking demonstration. Then Hayden Wood, flair bartender, comes out to demonstrate a few cocktails, flair bartending tricks, with audience participation, jokes, lots of music and clapping.

Then Guy comes out, throwing T-shirts and such into the audience, he'll take questions and answers, demonstrate new recipes from his upcoming book and serve them to the on-stage ticket holders. There's usually audience participation in the cooking segments, too.

Expect stories from the road (Guy's become a good story-teller!), jokes, music and dancing in the isles. Here's a video of "Story Time" at one of his shows in 2009, www.youtube.com.

--------------------------------------------------

Angelique asked, "What's the quickest, easiest brine for poultry or pork? Thank You!"

Our answer: Nice question! Here's a quick and easy suggestion from Guy: about a tablespoon of salt, a tablespoon of sugar (equal amounts), a teaspoon of peppercorns, fresh garlic (or onion would be fine), and water!

See www.youtube.com for a pork chop recipe with Guy Fieri and Matthew McConaughey. :) And more suggestions for a quick and easy breakfast and lunch here, McConaughey and Fieri on healthy cooking.

Diablomag.com interviewed Guy Fieri recently, "On his new Johnny Garlic's in Dublin: So, it looks like the new Johnny Garlic's in Dublin has an estimated opening date of June 1 now. Fieri did say that all the staff has already been hired and trained for the new restaurant, and that he was really looking forward to the opening...."

"This is the next big step in our company," Guy said, "You'll see a little different style and decor, and you'll see a whole variety of new items on the menu. Fan questions, March 2011

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month, I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them. [Some answers are edited for brevity. ~D]

Darla from Cleveland, TN wrote, "I work in television and am very impressed with how well the show is shot, edited and produced. Can you tell me what kind of cameras you shoot with? Thank you!"

Our answer:: I wrote to Anthony Rodriguez, one of the crew who shoots Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy in the field with your question. Here's his reply: "First off all, please pass on a very big thank you from the crew. We work hard to put DDD together in the field and it's such a huge compliment to hear that people enjoy it.

"To answer the question, we shoot DDD on Panasonic AJ-HDX900 DVCPro HD cameras."

Thank you Anthony! The camera costs $30,235; Anthony writes, "that's just for the camera body without a lens... :) !" Yikes.

------------------------------------------

Elena of Santa Maria writes, "There are two things my four year daughter Ashli knows really well, President of the United States and her favorite cook. She will make it a point to watch every time Guy comes on and we can't pull her away from the television when he's on. Once Guy is on we sit and watch. She will be five in June and all I want to make sure of is she gets T-shirt and autographed picture."

Our answer: Five! Always glad to hear that kids are interested in food and cooking. :) For Ashli's birthday, I'd like to suggest that you check out this T-shirt? For information on autographed merchandise, click here. I hope Ashli will be thrilled! Keep in touch to let us know it all worked out. :)

------------------------------------------

Cody of Thief River Falls writes, "Hey Guy, so since you didn't show at The Anchor Bar and Grill they don't have a 'Guy Ate Here' sign. Is there anyway you could find it in your heart to help them out with that? Personally, I think they deserve it."

Our answer: There are a few Triple D joints that have been featured on the show, un-hosted. Since Guy wasn't there to eat, he wasn't there to paint the "Guy Ate Here" tag and sign the wall. Also, none of the restaurants from the first season have tags; that practice started late in 2007.

But I should think that if the Anchor Bar wants something, they could contact their on-site producer or contact at Page Productions' home office in Minnesota. Thanks so much for taking the time to write in with your support of one of our Triple D's. The Anchor Bar is certainly a fan favorite!

------------------------------------------

Joey in Batesville, AR wrote, "about a month ago I watched a show (I can't rember what one)Mr. Fieri went to a restaurant where young adults (kids) were the chef's. I say Kids, teenagers. Can you please tell me the restrant's name? all I rember that it is in cal. Me and my wife are going to visit there and i'm wanting to take her to the restaurant."

Our answer: I'll bet that was Worth Our Weight, known as WOW, in Santa Rosa, CA. It was featured on the Funky Finds episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Worth Our Weight - website

Worth our Weight is a certified 501c(3) non profit. And if you'd like to review that segment from the show, follow this link for video on YouTube. I hope that was the one! And if you go, send our regards!

------------------------------------------

Edward, Allentown asks, "How did Guy Fieri start his career?"

Our answer: From Guy Fieri's official biography, Guy Fieri began his love affair with food at the age of ten, selling soft pretzels from a three-wheeled bicycle cart he built with his father named “The Awesome Pretzel.” ... attended University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. He began his career with Stouffers, managing their flagship restaurant in Long Beach, CA. After three years, Guy became District Manager of Louise’s Trattoria, where he oversaw six restaurants and was in charge of recruiting and training.

In 1996, Guy and his business partner, Steve Gruber embarked on a Sonoma County, CA-based Italian restaurant, Johnny Garlic’s. They opened their first location in Santa Rosa in the fall of 1996. And Guy competed and won the 2nd season of "The Next Food Network Star" in 2006.

------------------------------------------

Italo of Belle River, Ontario writes, "Is Guy coming to Ceaser's Windsor Ontario Canada if yes when? thanks"

Our answer: Yes! He sure is. And as far as I can tell, this is Guy's first public appearance in Canada. Guy Fieri's Food Show at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor, Windsor, ON is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011 09:00 PM - tickets

------------------------------------------

Karen from Bedford writes, "On Guy's Big BIte, who's trophies and what are they for?"

Our answer: Although a huge fan of sports in general, Guy isn't a judo champion, slam-dunk master or wold-class golfer. All the trophies on Guy's Big Bite shelf are rented from a prop house. Shhh, it's a set secret! :)

More information about the set, visit Food Network Magazine's Behind-the-Scenes on Guy's Big Set.

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month (and sometimes half-way through!), I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them. [Some answers are edited for brevity. ~D]

Medina of Leicester wrote, "Hi, I entered the Guy Fieri Ritz Cracker contest on Saturday and read where I would receive an e-mail of confirmation after I entered but have not received that confirmation yet what would be the reason for not receiving the confirmation?"

Our answer: Your spam blocker may have prevented Ritz Crackers from sending your confirmation. As you know, RITZ is no longer accepting recipe submissions. But they invite you back between March 28 and April 7, 2011 to vote for the top 10 finalists. Each vote counts as an entry into a sweepstakes to win Guy Fieri autographed swag! Visit www.facebook.com/ritzcrackers and click on the Guy Fieri app for more.

-------------------------------------------------

Fred of Montgomery wrote, "Where does Guy get those great shirts he wears?"

Our answer: We're still working on getting more information about Guy Fieri's wardrobe on Minute to Win It. But we do have a lot of information about the brands of shirts he wears on his Food Network shows. Most of Guy's shirts are Cubavera, and he says he's been wearing Fender shirts lately too. See trivia questions. From GuyFieri.com, "to name a few: Remetee, Roar, Cubavera, Affliction, Fender."

If you're looking for Guy Fieri Knuckle Sandwich shirts, they are available from his website. www.shopguyfieri.com

-------------------------------------------------

Gramma Phillis of Crystal Lake wrote, "With all the food sampling and gorging at the umpteen various places that Guy goes to, he never seems to gain weight?? As much as I see him eating -- I would be as big as an Elephant if I ate as much!! How does he stay at the seemingly same weight in every episode?"

Our answer: Guy Fieri has maintained his 210-215 lbs since starting with the Food Network in 2006. When Guy first started Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in 2007, he had no exercise plan. But now, when he is not on the road, he tries to follow a balanced diet including counting vegetables. He lifts weights for 45 minutes and does about 45 minutes of cardio each day.

Also keep in mind that although we see him eating TONS on the Food Network, several dishes at each restaurant, three restaurants in 30 minutes, five or six hours each week, he isn't eating THAT much food in such a short time.

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives typically shoots, on average, 7 or 8 restaurants each month. He and his film crew start each day with a blended juice of fruits and vegetables. And at each restaurant, Guy will usually only take 2 or 3 bites of each dish. It isn't as many calories as one might think. :)

Her reply: "Thanks-I would love to be with him-and eat some of that stuff-IT LOOKS SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!"

-------------------------------------------------

Renee of New York wrote, "looking for a recipe for blueberry goat cheese and basil pie featured around Feb. 17 18 19 or 20. My TV reception went out do to a winter storm, it sounded savory and wonderful."

Our answer: That was from the Signature Sandwiches episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. If you'd like to set your calendar or DVR, it is re-airing on Mar 26, 27 and Apr 11, 2011. At the time I'm writing you, no recipes for that episode have been posted, so you may want to keep checking back every few days, or so.

*Update* Recipe for Blueberry Goat Cheese Pie - recipe - courtesy Moira Sommers, Co-Owner/Chef of 3 Sisters Cafe in Indianapolis, IN

Alternately, you may consider contacting the restaurant directly, to see if they're willing to share the recipe. If they do, let us know too! :) The restaurant has no website, but here is their address and phone number:

3 Sisters Cafe
6360 Guilford Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46220
(317) 257-5556

-------------------------------------------------

Joan of Boston wrote, "Will Guy be coming to Massachusetts this year?"

Our answer: We haven't seen any upcoming dates in Massachusetts, but that doesn't mean there won't be any. The closest appearance we've seen so far is the Cooking Demo in Linden, NJ.

The Guy Fieri Food Tour only has dates so far in the Southeast and through the central Midwest, none along the eastern seaboard, none in the West. That surprised us. We wonder if he won't hit those areas later in the summer or fall.

-------------------------------------------------

Darla of Cleveland, TN wrote, "Can you tell me what material the prep area/counter top is made of on Guy's Big Bite? Thank you very much!"

Our answer: It's a cross cut walnut, produced by the Vermont Butcher Block. In earlier episodes, he used a 16" x 20" walnut end grain cutting board and a 16" x 20" cherry end grain cutting board by Ozark West.

-------------------------------------------------

Ilene of Fairfax wrote, "Has anyone ever informed you about Dixie Bones in Woodbridge VA?? Place is always packed. www.dixiebones.com People come from all around to this small dive of a place.

Our answer: Yes, as a matter of fact Dixie Bones was on the short list for a segment of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but a schedule just couldn't be arranged. They're definitely on the short list for the next time Guy is taping for the show in that area! Click here for more Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in the D.C. metro area.

We've been in touch with the owners of Dixie Bones and are eager for them to be featured. Thanks for writing in with your support!

-------------------------------------------------

Maria of Worcester wrote, "How did Guy meet his wife, and where is she from?"

Our answer: Great question! In his early 20's, Guy was working as a manager at a growing chain of restaurants in southern California. Lori walked into the restaurant, and Guy fell in love at first sight. He courted her and won her over. :)

She's originally from Rhode Island.

You can watch Guy's Chefography Part 2 at www.eatmedaily.com. Check out the video right about the 5:00 minute mark.

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month, I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them.

Jgreen of Bolingbrook wrote, "What kind of stove top does Guy use in his show?"

Our answer: "Guy uses Viking equipment at home, and we imagine the same on GBB." [answer courtesy of Brooks Group PR.]

Joanne of New Bedford wrote, "How do I go about promoting a local restaurant." Our answer: "Restaurant promotion is a complicated animal that can be rendered down to 'consistent compelling information directed to your core customer'." [answer courtesy of Brooks Group PR.]

Debra of West Hartford wrote, "Guy Fieri had a friend/partner on his show the other day for the Big Game. The turkey Burger, baked potato salad and a grape mojito were made on the show. I cannot get the recipe for the grape mojito. The website only brings up a kumquat mojito. Please help and send the recipe. Also, will Guy be anywhere near Connecticut promoting a book or any demonstrations? Thank you" Our answer: "Michael Perea was on that episode, Guy's Big Game. He is a mixologist and advises Guy on many of his cocktails for the show. He sent in with the correct recipe:
Sonoma County Mojito: Red, black, green grapes. Tablespoon sugar, 1 lime cut into 4 wedges, 6-8 mint leaves ( muddle all ingredients ) 2 oz silver rum, 1 oz white Sonoma County wine ( any variatal ) 4 oz soda water.
And you can view a YouTube video.

At this time, no trips to Connecticut have been formally released. However, Guy will be promoting a cookbook of his own recipes, "Guy Fieri Food," this Spring, so that might be a timeframe to watch out for.

We keep as much information as we can about his upcoming book signings and appearances at Upcoming Events."

J Malm of Eatonton, GA wrote, "how do we get the recipe wid rice cranberry bread and french toast from saras table creek cafe?"

Our answer: "The Food Network requests each restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives share one recipe. It's up to the restaurant to decide if they want to share more than one. Sara's Table Creek Cafe chose to share their recipe for brisket sandwiches here, http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/brisket-sandwich-recipe/index.html. LaVada of Clinton wrote, "I am a Hospitality Services Management Major and I a hoping to be able to do my semester project on him, so if you can think of any other little known tidbits about him, that would be a big help!!"

Our answer: "Here are some frequently asked questions that we've compiled: http://guyfieri.blogspot.com/p/frequently-asked-questions-about-guy.html. I've heard Guy say many times that we chose HM as his UNLV major because he wanted to get into the restaurant biz. Yes, he loves to cook and be creative with recipe development, but that he also valued being trained in the arts and skills of business management as well. Moreover, I've heard him say many times that the most important thing to do in the restaurant biz is to take care of your guests. Not customers, guests. He's very service-oriented. He has endorsed word-of-mouth advertising and serving flavorful food to build business, rather than offering coupons and discounts.

Take it from Kathy Griffin, eat at Johnny Garlic's

Johnny Garlic's in Santa Rosa, CA got a nice shout out from Kathy Griffin on Twitter:

@KathyGriffin: Wow! If u want great food, do like I did & run to @chefguyfieri! Team G @ Johnny Garlic's...

While in Santa Rosa for a performance on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Wells Fargo Center, Kathy Griffin and her entourage were treated to a 10-course meal, served by Guy Fieri and his staff.

For more on Kathy Griffin's tour dates, click here.

Johnny Garlic's currently has three locations: in Windsor, Santa Rosa and Roseville, CA. A fourth Johnny Garlic's, at Hacienda Crossing in Dublin, CA is under construction and scheduled to open in Spring, 2011.

A few of Johnny Garlic's unique dishes include:

The Grilled Onion Tortilla Stack, a Fieri Family Recipe. 12 layers of flour tortillas, with a mixture of caramelized onions, garlic and balsamic aioli. This dish was featured on the Sangria Shrimp episode of Guy's Big Bite.

The Hunters Creations are a rotation of exotic game and 'Off Da Hook' seafood, brought in daily and prepared by Johnny Garlic's culinary leaders.

Finish your meal with the mouth watering Breath Mint Pie (recipe), an Oreo cookie crust with junior mints tossed in mint chip ice cream. This dynamite dessert was seen on the Camp Cookoff episode of Dinner: Impossible with Robert Irvine.

Tex Wasabi's currently has two locations: in Sacramento and Santa Rosa, CA. The Santa Rosa location has been closed since the Fall of 2009, due to a broken water main that destroyed the floor. A series of difficulties with city building permits has delayed the remodel and construction process, but a recent update from Tex Wasabi's management states that the Tex Wasabi's in Santa Rosa is now under construction and slated for opening in early Spring 2011!

*Update* Tex Wasabi's in Santa Rosa is now open for business. Click here.

Featured at Tex Wasabi's:

The Bourbon Street Hurricane has Cruzan Estate Light Rum, orange and pineapple juice, grenadine and a float of Don Q Rum! This is a sure way to celebrate Mardi Gras without leaving town. To make a hurricane at home, try this one from the Guy's Big Easy episode of Guy Off the Hook.

Word on the street: a Guy Fieri signature restaurant will open in Las Vegas, NV sometime this year. More as we hear of it.

Also, tune-in to The CBS Early Show between 8:30 and 9:30 AM EST Monday morning, January 31, 2011, to watch Guy Fieri cook up some game day inspiration with RITZ Crackers.

And Guy Fieri is scheduled on the Wendy Williams show Monday. Click here for show times in your area.

Fan questions - December 2010

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month, I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them.

Ray, Florida wrote: "Did Guy Fieri drive anything other than the Camaro on early episodes of DDD? (my wife and I have a bet)"

Our answer: "Hi Ray! He sure did. You can see Guy driving a dark blue '66 Mustang in the first season, www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCuhtoxqKXk, at The Beacon Drive-in, in South Carolina and also here, www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSaIU1f5TNw, at The Bayway Diner in Linden, NJ. So who wins the bet? :)"

Ray's reply: ")-: My wife wins the bet. I have watched (thought I did) every episode and I could have sworn (falsely) that he only drove the Camaro. Oh well, my wife needs to win sometimes (actually, she wins too often). Thank you very much for your quick response! Kind regards, Ray"

Ray and his wife have inspired me to do a bit of further research, listing all the cars that have appeared on the show. Certainly the '67 Camaro and the 'Stang, but Guy's Shelby Cobra has also made a cameo on the show, and of course there was the "Woody" in the Hawaii episodes. We'll do further research and see what we can come up with. Thanks Ray!
