Morgan Fieri passed from this world, 2/19/11

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/times-standard/obituary.aspx?n=morgan-fieri&pid=148814143

"She was a beautiful redhead -- vivacious, the biggest-hearted person I've known," Fieri says. A practitioner of holistic health practices and an advocate of vegetarianism and organic foods, she contributed recipes to 'Guy Fieri Food.'

"I wasn't a huge vegetable person as a kid, but now I love 'em," he says. "Morgan was always talking about health, stuff I knew, but when she lectured about it, I listened. The piece about her in the book is the most cherished part of it, for me." -- Guy Fieri, on his sister Morgan Fieri

Things I learned about Guy Fieri from the Press Democrat

Recently Guy's home-town paper, the Press Democrat, wrote a thorough article on his past and current career. Oddly enough, many of the statements contained in the article answer questions I have recieved from fans, passed on to Guy's publicists and were not answered.

New things I learned from the Press Democrat:

His longtime Santa Rosa home is a modest place that became bigger with the addition of a killer kitchen and a pool for his two boys.

During the interview, Fieri was wearing a Sammy Hagar Chicken Foot T-shirt and sweatshirt with a paint splatter from a home project, drank Pellegrino water, and Johnny Garlic's in Santa Rosa has a big-screen TV devoted to Guy always going.

Pictured at right, a television installed in the bathroom at Tex Wasabi's in Sacramento. Whether or not it's devoted to Guy-programming, I do not know.

Guy thinks about food constantly. “Three times since we've been talking I've thought about what I'm going to be eating today and what I'm making for dinner tonight.”

Guy Fieri bought a new truck, a yellow Chevy 4500 monster semi truck he got with a bank loan.

Marcy Smothers doesn't know the difference between "literally" and "figuratively." When describing Guy's career, she said, "It's literally stratospheric.” Haha.

The name of Guy and NBC's new game show changed from Perfect 10 to Minute to Win It during the audition process. "... during a spontaneous live audition, telling a contestant, 'You've Got a Minute to Win It.' Network brass loved the line and renamed the show."

Friends Raising Funds $80,000 for Lisa Millerick-Thompson.

On Friday, March 12, 2010, Guy Fieri "took his rock-star-style cooking road show to The White House, where he and a team that included his 13-year-old son, Hunter, prepared lunch for the West Wing staff." He used Sonoma County's Liberty Duck for the DLT. Also, although I knew he had cooked for troops in the Middle East, I learned that he'd also cooked for troops in Guantanamo Bay. I don't know when that was.

Both Guy and his sister, Morgan, have assumed the original Italian iteration of the family name, instead of their parent's last name, Ferry.

The Johnny Garlic's location in Santa Rosa used to be a Big John's Chicken.

While vice-president of a restaurant association, Guy Fieri "once got into a shouting match with another board member."

Guy Fieri is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds.

Guy is about ready to launch The Guy Fieri Foundation for Inspiration and Imagination for Kids. “The idea is to use my celebrity situation and money raised to do events and put on programs that inspire the imagination and encourage kids to achieve their goals,” he said.

Lastly, I learned that if I want questions answered, I'll need to forward them to other media who can go straight to the horse's mouth, as it were.

New! And not from the Press Democrat. Haha.

Guy Fieri - podcast interview with Ceslie

[*Warning* Audio player starts automatically. Sorry, but I don't know how to change the settings so it doesn't do that. ~D]

I've dug up a great podcast interview with Guy Fieri on The Ceslie Show (website). It was recorded when Guy was in Houston, Texas the week June 22 - 25, 2009. Guy's segment is first, after some 5 minutes of chatter chatter chatter by the host in her hour-long radio show. It takes about 26 minutes to get to the end of Guy's segment.

They talked about Guy's selling pretzels in the 6th grade and the history behind his father's support of Guy's entrepreneurial efforts.

As a teenager, Guy Fieri was an exchange student in France; he recalls eating Croque Monsieur and Pommes Frites, and asked himself, "Why is it this taste so incredible!" He says that was when he was bit by the (culinary) bug.

Guy also claims his parents are phenomenal cooks; they taught how food works, and Guy's dad used to play "Iron Chef" with Guy, giving him a pork chop and a cupboard of food, to see what he could do with it.

Ceslie expressed a concern that many viewers believed Guy was new to food and cooking when he won the 2nd season of Next Food Network Star. Guy replied that he's been in the restaurant business since he was 13, starting by washing dishes at Mexican Restaurant. One day someone didn't show, and he got to cook.

They also spoke about the Fieri Foundation, how it is developing and some of the inspirations behind it. The Fieri Foundation's goal is to inspire children and young adults to look to their imaginations. Guy's sister, Morgan pictured at left, is the executive director. Next year, we'll hear more. *Update - Morgan lead the Foundation until stricken with cancer in 2010. She died February 2011. More information.*

Towards attaining a life-long goal of being in the restaurant industry, Guy felt he had the culinary chops but that he needed training in the business end of things. So he got his higher education at UNLV in Hospitality Management.

Again, sorry for the auto-start on this player!Related Posts:
