Tailgate Warriors premieres on Saturday. Here's a bit more information on the show.
Tailgating fans were called to Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, on August 15, 2009 for an NFL pre-season game against the Chicago Bears. Two tailgating teams were pitted against each other on the blacktop: Conklin’s Tailgate Bar and Grill (Yahoo! group) for Buffalo v. Da Bus (website) for Chicago.
CBnG made the Norwood Platter, Wing in the Pigskin, Four Straight (with scallops), and T.O.'s Great on Sundae (haha).
The Bus' menu included a Blitz Burger, Da Bears Bus Roast Beef, the Sideline Salad, Pump Fake Potato and Superbowl S'mores.
The teams were judged by Jay "The Tailgate Guy" DiEugenio, Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe, Maile Carpenter and the host Guy Fieri.
Jay DiEugenio (website) has "tailgated at every stadium in the NFL, as well as numerous colleges, racetracks, and even a Hollywood game show" and hosts a radio show that airs Thursdays at 12 Noon Pacific, 2pm Central and 3pm Eastern on the TalkZone Sports Channel.
Sometimes mistaken for Guy Fieri's dad but isn't, Dr. BBQ (website) has written four cookbooks and is currently working on a fifth.
Jaden Hair, of SteamyKitchen.com, described Ray with "the razor-sharp spiky blond hair, trophy belly, baggy black shorts, flavor-savor beard and a killer watch tattoo where time stops at 5:01pm ... (he was) everything I had expected from a man who carried a name, Dr. BBQ, with swaggering authority."
Ray Lampe is the Executive Chef at Southern Hospitality, a New York BBQ restaurant. Moreover, he is credited with inadvertently naming Guy's BBQ team, the Motley Cue, in 2003. (the full story)
Guy Fieri and Ray Lampe were both judges at the Jack Daniels Invitational in 2008.
Maile Carpenter is Editor-In-Chief of Food Network Magazine (website). In her career, she's been a food editor for Time Out New York and executive editor for the magazine Every Day with Rachael Ray.
This program is airing as a special - if it gets rave reviews, it could be picked up as a series next year. But for now, enjoy the program. Keep an eye on the The Tailgate Warriors' index page for recipes and future airing times and dates.
The Food Network is getting behind the hot tailgating trend with a gazillion tips, tricks, videos and recipes, all geared towards tailgating cuisine.
Tailgate Cuisine? You ask?
Yes, cuisine. Tailgating isn't just about grilling a couple burgers and brats before walkin' into the game anymore. It's become a culinary art and a competitive sport, with many people devoting their time, talents and sometimes giving up their jobs just to go on the College and Professional Football tailgating circuit.
No ignorance on the part of the Food Network, they're hot on this outdoor cooking food trend. And Guy Fieri is leading the team.
The Food Network has put together a complete Tailgating Package on their website. Caution, the video autoplays! But there are Guy and his buddies, Dirty P. and Kleetus, at the side of the Knuckle Sandwich RV (trailer, camper, motor home, 5th wheel, whatever), giving advice on and recipes for tailgating in all its glory.
These videos are being aired on Sundays for the nfl - all viewable on nfl.com. Click here for the video on the ultimate dutch oven tailgate sandwich.
Moreover, October 17, 2009 is devoted to Tailgating on Food Network programming. All times listed below are Eastern. Check the Food Network's program schedule for more information.

The battle on the gridiron may be rough when the Chicago Bears take on the Buffalo Bills, but it's nothing compared to the action going on outside the stadium. Guy Fieri has thrown down the gauntlet, and tailgate teams from around the country are dukin' it out to see who has the most killer grub in the game! Bringing their rigs, grills, costumes, attitudes and amazing eats, these teams mean business and are fighting for tailgating supremacy as Food Network's Tailgate Warriors.
Guy Fieri just finished wrapping up a long trip to New York state last week, with many sightings and tidbits of news to accompany.
The week started off in Western New York with taping "Tailgate Warriors" at the Bears @ Bills preseason football game, August 15 - 16, 2009 in Lot C of the Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, NY.
Judges' table at "Tailgate Warriors"
According to Questfor31.com,"Tailgate Warriors will be hosted by Guy Fieri and will follow Guy around the national football league as he pits two tailgating teams, representing the NFL organizations taking the field on gameday, to match wits in a tailgating battle of gameday cuisine preparation."
I expect "Tailgate Warriors" to premier on the Food Network on Saturday, October 17, 2009. But don't quote me, haha.
After taping several locations for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in WNY and a live cooking demonstration in Niagara Falls, Guy headed to the Food Network studios in Chelsea Market, New York, to tape the 7th season of Guy's Big Bite. Typically, 2 to 3 episodes are taped each day over a 7- to 10-day period. In total, 20 episodes were shot over eight days, August 21 - 28, 2009.
On Friday the 21st Sunny Anderson joined in on Guy's set to tape an episode.
On Sunday, August 23, 2009, the studios were closed for taping, so Guy and Anne Burrell spent an afternoon in Chinatown, where Guy learned (?) how to hand pull noodles.

On August 28, Guy sent out a tweet, "In nyc on set of guys big bite, gettin ready to wrap last of 20 shows. Wow, been a run of great recipes. Such a killer crew workin onda show," which caused a bit of a sensation from his Twitter followers - this isn't the LAST of Guy's Big Bite, just that they wrapped up taping the 7th season. Guy's Big Bite will be back; never fear.
