5th Annual Celebrity Chef Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC

More than 100 of the nation’s finest chefs put on a culinary extravaganza at the Autism Speaks to Wall Street: 5th Annual Celebrity Chef Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The fund-raising event, held Monday, October 3, 2011, raised $1.6 million for Autism Speaks’ research and advocacy initiatives.

The event was emceed by Guy Fieri, and co-hosted by CBS “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl and Lee Brian Schrager of Southern Wine and Spirits of America. It featured a cocktail reception, auction and the unique experience of four-course tableside cooking by nationally acclaimed chefs.

Highlights from the event include Guy calling Autism Speaks President Mark Roithmayr and KRG Chairman Steven Wise onstage for a “Minute to Win It” contest of stacking apples. Wise wowed the crowd by balancing five apples in about three seconds for the victory!

Guests were also treated to a special performance by Rex Lewis-Clack, a young pianist and vocalist who is faced with the challenges of blindness and autism, and opera singer Sam McElroy, who has been coaching Rex on his singing.

Zagat.com buzzed that "The always chatty Guy Fieri tipped us off on his favorite Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives of Miami. 'I like Betty’s Soul Food. There’s a little luncheria on 14th Street that I’ve been going every day. And Sonny’s is a great one.'

Bitchin' Kitchen posted this entirely-too-close snapshot of Guy Fieri's pendant, a skull in chef's hat, created by Room101Silver. Guy, we're thinking it's time to wax the chassy. :)

MisMaraFtL tweeted that her "parents were @ bubbleq 2nite. Said u were a rockstar. She wanted a pic so badly that she got throught the bodyguards & got 1!!" And what a great pic it is.

@MissMaraFtL

Delish caught up with Guy Fieri at BubbleQ, where they asked, "So what's your favorite kind of BBQ?"
Guy's reply, "I love brisket. Simple great beef brisket cooked the right way, all that fat reducing you know melting into the meat. And then I love Carolina barbecue with a good vinegar sauce. And I love Northern California, Santa Marina style. I think the area puts me in the mood. We have such different trends and styles of barbecue in the United States. We're blessed."

A spoon for Guy Fieri

Jeff, from Waukegan, IL, a mechanical designer by trade, "but I would much rather be home designing and making my own ideas," writes from his profile on LumberJocks.com.

In his own words:
This is one of those projects that was just fun to do from the start. The spoon was designed and crafted for Guy Fieri. I have always liked watching his shows and thought it would be cool to make him his own personalized wooden spoon.... I had a blast designing, carving and wood burning the spoon. It started life as a 3” x 3” x 16” piece of hard maple. After some intricate compound cuts on a bandsaw the carving began. It was finished with three soakings of mineral oil while being wet sanded with 400 grit sand paper.... it felt like velvet in your hands.

*View more images of the spoon at http://lumberjocks.com*

I shipped it off to his company “Knuckle Sandwich” two weeks ago and this Friday I received a hand written thank you letter from Guy himself…awesome! I was pretty blown away. I want to thank Lori [Guy's wife ~D] at Knuckle Sandwich for taking the time and helping with all of this. Great company full of very nice people. This letter is definitely going to be framed!
-- Jeff , Illinois

*Guy's note to Jeff*

Here are just a few of Jeff's other projects. Brilliant craftsmanship and artful design.

Guy Fieri on his father

Guy Fieri sent out this tweet in early May, My grandma loved this mag!, she’s not with us but it feels good I made the cover. Check it. The June 2010, Father's Day edition of Guideposts is out now with Guy Fieri on the cover, and it's available online. Here are a few quotes from the article:

"My biggest inspiration, the best role model this Guy could ever hope for…it’s my dad, hands down."

"If it weren’t for my dad I would never have become an entrepreneur or had the guts to start my own restaurants."

Guy relates the story of how his Amazing Pretzel business came to be, with the help of his father, James Ferry.

"We got a three-wheeler from Goodwill. After school, I met Dad at his buddy’s wood shop and we built a pretzel cart. I painted it yellow.

'What do you want to call it?' Dad asked. 'The Awesome Pretzel Cart,' I decided. That summer at the town fair I set up my cart and sold hot pretzels. I made a thousand bucks. A sixth grader with his own business. It was awesome!"

"Everything I’ve ever done, he’s been there encouraging me, working with me to figure things out and, yes, sometimes kicking me in the rear.

Now I’m a father myself, with two boys, Hunter, 13, and Ryder, four. My parents live next door, and the boys spend a lot of time with their grandfather—they call him Jamps."

The Houston Chronical reports that Food Network’s Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives fame was seen late-night dining at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Houston, Texas, with Dan Pastorini and friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. This report a day after Guy Fieri said as much from Twitter.
The friendly food guy signed autographs on napkins and butter plates for admirers who included Theresa Quartaro and Mary Donna Moceri, events coordinator for Grotto 610. Fieri said he was in town shooting a piece on local hot spots. Proprietor Johnny Carrabba (Moceri’s cousin) just missed the TV star, having headed home a bit earlier.
Pastorini, quarterback for the Houston Oilers 1971 - 1979, the Oakland Raiders 1980, the L.A. Rams 1981 and the Philadelphia Eagles 1983, currently lives and works in Houston as President of DP7 racing www.dp7racing.com.

At the time of this writing, I've heard no news on which places Guy visited in Houston, Texas for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives this week. Sorry!
