I believe that there are alot of other restaurants that should have been chosen. Did it get chosen because a City Councilman owns it?
There have been other restaurants that have been opened for 30 years in the Columbia area that should have been picked. I am outraged over this pick. It is not fair to the other restaurant owners that have worked their ass off in their restaurants for this one to be opened since Febuary. Please give the other long time restaurant owners a fair chance.

Anon 5:36, I assume you're talking about Pawly's Front Porch? Yes, I read that its owned by a city councilman.

I have no inside information on how restaurants are chosen. But of the 300+ places that have been on Triple-D, few to none of them are owned by active politicians. So I am strongly convinced that wasn't a motivating factor in choosing Pawly's.

Moreover, the length of time a place has been open isn't a deciding factor per se, though success and longevity is certainly taken into account.

David Page, DDD's executive producer, said in an interview that the real deciding factors have much more to do with how the food is made - is it by scratch or is it delivered to the restaurant virtually ready to warm and serve.

I have learned that many of MY favorite local places do just that - heat up food delivered to them by their purveyor. Oh it's delicious, certainly. Just not what Triple D is looking for.

I'm sorry you're disappointed with their choice in SC. And I wish I did have inside information so that I could answer your question with authority.

All I can offer is my perspective from following Fieri and this show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, quite closely for the past year.

best,
~D

You're right about Pawley's anonymous...owned by a local politician...food is not that good and most is provided by the purveyor...sad choice in my opinion and wish they picked a better cuisine more representative of our town. The place opened in February after it's predecessor failed...oh well...hope you're not surprised by that by now.

Pawleys Front Porch does not just heat and serve. The Chef-- wait did I say Chef (yep I did) at a burger joint--- makes the food from scratch.
Just because a previous restaurant in the same location doesn't make it, should the current establishment be held accountable for that? I wish Pawleys Good Luck, I love the burgers and fresh HAND (by a person at the restaurant)CUT fries!

Guy was at the Penguin in October. The Penguin will be on Triple D a second time during the episode about The Dish in Charlotte.
