The best breakfast Guy Fieri ever ate

The Best Thing I Ever Ate is one of the Food Network's most popular recent shows. On the Wake Up Call episode, Guy Fieri offered an alternative breakfast option, eggs and a chop, potatoes optional.

Check the Wake Up Call episode page for future airings.

Guy admits he doesn't care much for traditional breakfasts, content with a cup of coffee, banana, bagel, maybe some corned beef hash. But his offering for this program is the Chop & Chick, eggs and a pesto-marinated, skillet-seared Iowa pork rib chop, at Matt's Big Breakfast in Phoenix, Arizona.

Matt's Big Breakfast - website
801 N. 1st Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85004- map
(602) 254-1074
www.mattsbigbreakfast.com

Here's Matt's segment from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives - "Big Breakfast."

Recipe for the Chop & Chick unavailable online. However, Coleman.com (yes, the camp gear company) has a nice recipe for a pesto marinade, NOT Matt's, but still very good.

1 1/2 cups fresh basil leaves
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
2 tablespoons chicken broth
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 garlic cloves, peeled
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
2-3 pounds chicken pieces or pork chops

In a food processor or blender, combine the basil, oil, Parmesan, broth, lemon juice, garlic, pepper and salt. Purée the mixture for 45 seconds. Place marinade plus poultry or meat into a double resealable plastic bag and store in cooler.

Enjoy.

Pictures and comments from NY Times / Nascar / Guy Fieri event

@chefguyfieri started this morning with a tweet to over 18,000 fans, "In nyc shootin ulitmate recipe showdown. Last day, it airs in march. Huge event with NASCAR, tommy baldwin racing, and NY times last nite."

Guy Fieri cooked for the assembled crowd, making his signature Cajun Chicken Alfredo (recipe).

The Daily Zeny blogged, "I attended a reception hosted by the New York Times introducing a very unlikely partnership between the NYT, NASCAR, Tommy Baldwin Racing and Guy Fieri. ... The best part of the reception is Guy Fieri--he's hilarious, down-to-earth...."

Those assembled had the opportunity to learn more about advertising and promotional possibilities with NASCAR.

According to LuckyDogRacing, 37% of the US population, that's 75 million Americans are NASCAR fans. NASCAR is the number 2 sport in terms of TV ratings, only behind the NFL.

NASCAR's 40 million hard-core fans spend nearly 9 hours a week following NASCAR through all types of media outlets.

And Scarborough Research found that from 2007 to 2008, roughly 30% of fans are blue collar, 40% of fans are white collar. 56% of NASCAR fans have an annual income of over $50,000, and 20% of fans make over $100,000 each year.

NASCAR fans spend an estimated $1.5 - $2 billion on advertised products.

My husband says, "That's a lot of money spent watching a lot of cars make a lot of left turns ...." Haha.

Ebay alert - Guy Fieri demo tix available for NY fest

Bid now for 2 tickets to the currently-sold-out Guy Fieri Culinary Demo at the New York Wine & Food Festival on Sunday, October 11, 2009. ebay auction here - auction ends October 1, 2009 around 1:00 p.m., pacific time.

Various other Guy Fieri-oriented items for auction or sale on ebay here.

There are also some tickets listed for sale on newyork.craigslist.org for the NY Festival's opening night.

Caveat emptor is Latin for "Let the buyer beware."

Already, tickets for the Knuckle Sandwich production, The Guy Fieri Road Show, are being auctioned on ebay and sold through various ticket warehousing websites and Craigslist.

If you choose to purchase your tickets from anywhere other than the official ticket vending sites listed on GuyFieri.com/tourdates, please do so very, very carefully.

From what I've seen, procedures have been put in place at several venues to prevent scalpers from inflating the ticket prices (especially for the premium tickets) even more than they already are. I'd hate to hear of someone getting "a great deal," only to find out they are turned away at the door, day of the show.

The Internet can be a great and awful place to do business. Be smart. Read carefully and do your homework. Verify that the tickets will be honored at the venue's door BEFORE you buy. Here's ebay's Security Center, with a link to their Buying with Confidence tour. And here's Craigslist's about > scams.

Guy Fieri impersonations abound

By the sounds of it, everyone enjoyed Saturday Night Live's spoof on the Food Network's Guy Fieri, with Bobby Moynihan's "Liquid Queso!" Haha, that part cracked me up.

See SNL's spoof on Guy Fieri video clip here

But when guys go around pretending to be Guy, it isn't so funny.

Like chitknit said, "Oh, Faux Guy Fieri...why are you visiting random suburban KC sites and telling people you're the real GF? Dumb teens believed this weirdo."

This is the guy at left, who was interviewed at the Kansas City Royals game last summer, who worked a BBQ competition in Kansas City also, and insinuated to the owners of Cookees Drive-in in Pleasanton, Kansas that he was the host of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Employees had their pictures taken with him ... and one can only wonder if that ice cream cone was comp'd to this impostor, hmm?

And recently, he tried to pass himself off as Guy Fieri on a night out in Kansas City.

Or this guy pictured at right in Las Vegas. I'm told by anonymous tip that the Las Vegas fake is the same as the Seattle fake. Who knows ... and really, who cares. A fake is a fake.

Gabby, she wrote relates a "very awkward story" of meeting this guy at The Killers after-party in Vegas. I mean, c'mon. What's so funny about making people feel like shmucks, huh? It feels good to make perfectly nice people feel "like half of an asshole?"

Well you guys, you're on notice. We're on to you, and word is getting out to tens of thousands of Guy Fieri fans and hundreds of thousands of Twitter, Myspace and Facebook users. Nobody's laughing.

You think Guy Fieri's people (agents, rep's, friends and family) don't read this blog? They do, guys. They do. Haha, were I you, I wouldn't mess with a Guy who goes by the name Guido. Ya hear what I'm sayin'?

Impostors, impersonators, fakers. Guy has his own life, now it's time for you to live your own. If you don't have one already, get one!

Grrr.

End of rant.

New merchandise added to Guy Fieri's website

The folks at GuyFieri.com just added a new set of Kulinary designs, and soon they will offer Guy Fieri signature Gatorz sunglasses and Doxa watches. To buy Guy Fieri's signature line of Gatorz sunglasses, click here.

Keep an eye on Guy's store at http://www.shopguyfieri.com/index.htm

And recently, Guy Fieri sent a newsletter out to his fans - a first, as far as I know. You can join the mailing list by clicking here.

In it, Guy says, "The Guy Fieri Knuckle Sandwich Knife is kickin' it!" And, continues with some background on how and why he chose to work with Ergo Chef, and that the knives "blend the best materials with a rockin' design."

Under the heading "We're drivin' NASCAR!," Guy wrote, "We are cooking up something hot for the upcoming races ... we are designing new graphics for the car that should jump outta the TV screen!"

Guy announced his participation in the upcoming Metropolitan Cooking Show: "MCES gave me a discount code for my fans so that you can save 15% off tickets to my show in the Celebrity Theater. All you have to do is visit www.metrocooking.com to purchase your tickets and then type in the promo code BIGBITE.

But make sure you click the gray 'verify promotion code' box to apply the discount. You better hurry up and get your tickets today though, cause this promo only lasts until midnight on October 9th."

In addition to the new merchandise available on GuyFieri.com, Guy wrote that they offer "my signature Gatorz sunglasses, Doxa watches, and ... soon you can pre-order my new book before the rest of the WORLD!!!" I haven't found links to Gatorz sunglasses nor Doxa watches, so my only suggestion is to keep checking back.

*update*
The Guy Fieri Signature Gatorz sunglasses can be found on Gatorz.com.

On a related note, several fans of Guy Fieri have written in asking where to find the photographs taken of them and Guy at the book signing in Verona, New York's Turning Stone Casino. Click here to find the photographs taken of you and Guy Fieri at the event.

The newsletter ended with a shoutout to Kleetus' blog and a link to the upcoming Knuckle Sandwich - Guy Fieri Roadshow.

Guy Fieri helps United Way in Knoxville

According to volunteertv.com, all three Knoxville news anchors joined together in a first-ever simulcast telethon for the United Way of Greater Knoxville. The event at the Bijou Theater was hosted by Hallerin Hill and Guy Fieri.

The United Way raised a few thousand dollars more than their goal of $250,000. For more information go to www.unitedwayknox.org.

There were several sightings in and around Knoxville during the day.

See more pictures at Ever After Events & Weddings. The Knoxville United Way Auction is still under way through October 16, 2009, and Ever After is a proud sponsor. Look for a bridal shower and rehearsal dinner package from them. You can also bid on books, guitars and more, including a Guy Fieri autographed book and other Food Network items.

Video, pictures and comments from Turning Stone

*update*
If you attended Guy Fieri's performance at Turning Stone and had your picture taken with him during the book signing, you may be looking for the website from which to download your photograph. I found the pictures on Guy Fieri's website. Click here for more information.

Guy Fieri appeared at Turning Stone Casino, Saturday, September 19 2009 in upstate New York. The pictures, fan photos, tweets, video and comments are streaming in.

The Tetamores said "Yesterday we went over to the Casino to see Guy Fieri of the Food Network, Guy's Big Bite and Diners Drive-In's and Dives. He was awesome, gave an hour and a half cooking demonstration, but he was all over the stage, talking, joking and working the crowd. He's funnier than he is on TV. He did over an hour of autograph signing after, and we got him to sign our copy of his Triple D Cookbook."

KingRich98 said Chef Guy Fieri was at Turning Stone "for the Feast of San Genarro. He really is off the hook," with this photograph of Guy Fieri in action.

And sevilla90 phoned in this picture at below.

adamciampi tweeted, "Some old lady threw her bra at Guy Fieri," which although funny, may have inspired Guy's tweet:

"At turningstone casino in upstate ny, did rockin food show for 5000ppl, WOW! Wild audience."

Life As a Work At Home Internet Mogul has, perhaps, the best of all the Turning Stone photos I've seen today, including this one, and a brief description of how the bra got on stage, and Guy's reaction.

She says, "... he was beet red. When he finally collected himself, laughed it off, and made some comment about this being a family show. and that he’d now seen everything...."

Lastly, salenard posted this brief video of Guy Fieri's performance on YouTube, saying "Guy Fieri at the Turning Stone Casion Verona NY Sept 19, 2009."

A few more Turning Stone fan pictures are here, at www.onlocationvacations.com.

More photos, comments and such as they come in. Thanks for reading.

Guy Fieri's Crab Burgers

Crab Burgers with Celery Remoulade Slaw
From Fab Crab on Guy's Big Bite

I've had several requests for this recipe. Here it is, with accompanying video. For those of you new to the classic French celery root remoulade, click here for Julia Child's recipe.

Ingredients
For the crab burgers:

1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 large egg, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons thinly sliced scallions, white tip only
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon hot sauce
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper
1 pound lump crabmeat, picked over for shells
2 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs
1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
4 kaiser rolls
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
4 pieces butter lettuce
1 large heirloom tomato, sliced

For the Remoulade Slaw:

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 lemon, juiced
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley leaves
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper
1 medium celery root, peeled and quartered (about 2 pounds)

Directions

To make the crab burgers: In a large bowl, whisk mayonnaise, egg, scallions, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, hot sauce, and salt and pepper, to taste. Fold in the crabmeat and 1 cup of the bread crumbs until just combined. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties. Put the patties on the baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Meanwhile make the slaw: In a small bowl, whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar, Dijon, lemon juice, paprika, cayenne, parsley and salt and pepper, taste. Using the grater attachment on the food processor or a box grater, grate the celery root. Work quickly so that the root doesn't turn brown. Transfer to a medium bowl, add pour the dressing over the celery root. Toss to combine and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Remove the crab patties from the refrigerator. Place the remaining bread crumbs in a shallow dish. Dredge the patties in the bread crumbs and pat along the edges.

Heat the oil in a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until the oil is hot but not smoking. Place the patties into the oil and cook about 3 minutes per side. Transfer to paper towel lined plate to drain. Season the patties with salt while they are still warm. Place on baking sheet to hold in a preheated 250 degree oven while you toast the buns.

Slice the kaiser rolls in half, butter, put on a sheet pan and toast under the broiler.

To assemble the burgers, place a patty on the bottom half of each bun and top with the Celery Root Slaw, a piece of lettuce and a tomato slice.

Not Guy Fieri at Fremont's Oktoberfest in Washington state

The Seattle Guy Fieri Impostor / Impersonator has struck again, this time at the Fremont Oktoberfest, an annual micro-brew festival organized by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce in Washington.

The Fremont Universe incorrectly presumed that "Food Network’s Guy Fieri was in town shooting for "Guy’s Big Bite". His Oktoberfest show airs on October 14."

And although it's true that there is a Guy's Big Bite Oktoberfest show, it wasn't taped in Washington state.

Dining Out, September 20 - 26, 2009

Guy Fieri was the spokesman for the first annual Great American Dine Out in 2008. Here's his Public Service Announcement from last year.

This it's second year, Aaron McCargo Jr. is the spokesman. But it doesn't really matter who's speaking up - what matters is that you can easily do something to help. One in six children in America is at risk of hunger. More than 13 million American children live below the poverty line.

During the week of September 20 - 26, 2009, dine out at a participating restaurant in your area. Some restaurants are donating a portion of sales for the week to Share Our Strength, while others are selling T-shirts and bounce back coupons or even creating special menu items to raise much-needed funds. Share Our Strength is a leading organization in the fight against childhood hunger in America. Visit strength.org.

To find a participating restaurant in your area, click here. You'll be taken to a Google map and asked to enter a zip code.

Visit GreatAmericanDineOut.org for more information.

Several restaurants are kicking off the event on Saturday the 19th, also. So be sure to check with your local papers, radio stations and local food and entertainment magazines for special events related to the Great American Dine Out.

Use Google! Just type in "Great American Dine Out" followed by the name of Your Town. See what pops up!

You can also follow the Great American Dine Out on Twitter, at twitter.com/Dine_out.

Moreover, on September 23, 2009, California is celebrating Family Day, with both Maria Shriver and Guy Fieri encouraging people to eat as a family.

Find out more at wearefamily.ca.gov. And if you live or are visiting California on the 23rd, visit www.calrest.org for participating Family Day restaurants.

Neither Johnny Garlic's nor Tex Wasabi's appear to be participating restaurants in either of these events.

Guy's Got Serious Chops (GI0609H)

Guy's Big Bite - Guy's Got Serious Chops - Aired: 9/13/09

Guy Fieri doesn't mess around when it comes to his chops: today he's got a whole bone-in pork rack smothered in two kinds of mustard, rolled in bread crumbs, and roasted to juicy perfection. This centerpiece deserves two sides: a cool, crisp Green Bean, Walnut and Feta salad and a steaming pot of Adams Apple Mashed Potatoes, creamy and crunchy with chunks of fresh Granny Smiths. To drink, Lemonation Creation blends whiskey with fresh lemonade and a dash of sour apple schnapps for an extra tart bite.

A like-minded fan of Guy Fieri, only prettier

I heart Kelly Olexa.

Well, I guess I can't say that, really. I mean, I don't know her. But I came across Kelly's video blogs, leading up to her trip from Chicago to New York for the Wine & Food Festival in October, 2009.

Check out her vlog, www.kellyolexa.com/nycwff.

Her video entry "#NYCWFF I heart Guy Fieri" wins The Dorable Award for the week. Perhaps for the year.

Ms. Olexa, I wish you all the best. May you have the choicest of food and wine pairings, many celebrity chef sightings and just basically tear it up in New York. Remember you can always sleep when you get home, so don't worry about that while you're there. And oh ... bring your camera.

Guy Fieri - on tailgating

The Food Network is getting behind the hot tailgating trend with a gazillion tips, tricks, videos and recipes, all geared towards tailgating cuisine.

Tailgate Cuisine? You ask?

Yes, cuisine. Tailgating isn't just about grilling a couple burgers and brats before walkin' into the game anymore. It's become a culinary art and a competitive sport, with many people devoting their time, talents and sometimes giving up their jobs just to go on the College and Professional Football tailgating circuit.

And yes. There's a tailgating circuit.

Read The Tailgate Knight. Great blog.

No ignorance on the part of the Food Network, they're hot on this outdoor cooking food trend. And Guy Fieri is leading the team.

The Food Network has put together a complete Tailgating Package on their website. Caution, the video autoplays! But there are Guy and his buddies, Dirty P. and Kleetus, at the side of the Knuckle Sandwich RV (trailer, camper, motor home, 5th wheel, whatever), giving advice on and recipes for tailgating in all its glory.

These videos are being aired on Sundays for the nfl - all viewable on nfl.com. Click here for the video on the ultimate dutch oven tailgate sandwich.

Moreover, October 17, 2009 is devoted to Tailgating on Food Network programming. All times listed below are Eastern. Check the Food Network's program schedule for more information.

Tailgate Party Weekend Cooking Block
Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The day's line-up of shows have premiere episodes geared towards tailgating and football-oriented parties from "30 Minute Meals," "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," "Down Home with the Neelys," "Paula's Best Dishes" and "Cooking for Real." There are more. You get the idea.

Season 7 of Guy's Big Bite gets a kick off with "Guy's Big Game," airing at 9 a.m. eastern. "It's total Tailgate Time on Big Bite for the Big Game. Tender turkey patties on rye with gruyere and mushrooms, along with a cheddar-topped potato salad, will satisfy hungry fans and linebackers alike. To toast your team's win, a grape mojito inspired by Guy's hometown."

Then Marc Summers' "Unwrapped" program re-airs two tailgating episodes: "Football Parties" at 8 p.m. and "Fan Fare" at 8:30 p.m.

All this leading up to ...

... drum roll, please ...

The battle on the gridiron may be rough when the Chicago Bears take on the Buffalo Bills, but it's nothing compared to the action going on outside the stadium. Guy Fieri has thrown down the gauntlet, and tailgate teams from around the country are dukin' it out to see who has the most killer grub in the game! Bringing their rigs, grills, costumes, attitudes and amazing eats, these teams mean business and are fighting for tailgating supremacy as Food Network's Tailgate Warriors.

Followed by more "Unwrapped" with "Tailgating Goodies" at 10 p.m. and "The Secret Life of Tailgating" at 10:30.

Whew!
