Pictures and comments from NY Times / Nascar / Guy Fieri event

@chefguyfieri started this morning with a tweet to over 18,000 fans, "In nyc shootin ulitmate recipe showdown. Last day, it airs in march. Huge event with NASCAR, tommy baldwin racing, and NY times last nite."

Guy Fieri cooked for the assembled crowd, making his signature Cajun Chicken Alfredo (recipe).

The Daily Zeny blogged, "I attended a reception hosted by the New York Times introducing a very unlikely partnership between the NYT, NASCAR, Tommy Baldwin Racing and Guy Fieri. ... The best part of the reception is Guy Fieri--he's hilarious, down-to-earth...."

Those assembled had the opportunity to learn more about advertising and promotional possibilities with NASCAR.

According to LuckyDogRacing, 37% of the US population, that's 75 million Americans are NASCAR fans. NASCAR is the number 2 sport in terms of TV ratings, only behind the NFL.

NASCAR's 40 million hard-core fans spend nearly 9 hours a week following NASCAR through all types of media outlets.

And Scarborough Research found that from 2007 to 2008, roughly 30% of fans are blue collar, 40% of fans are white collar. 56% of NASCAR fans have an annual income of over $50,000, and 20% of fans make over $100,000 each year.

NASCAR fans spend an estimated $1.5 - $2 billion on advertised products.

My husband says, "That's a lot of money spent watching a lot of cars make a lot of left turns ...." Haha.
