YouTube user has Triple D vid's covered
I noticed a few weeks ago that some nice quality YouTube videos of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives were being uploaded by user Eeldarb. As far as I can tell and at the time of this writing, all but a dozen or so segments have been uploaded. For example,
Not uploaded yet:
Dari-ette
The Creole Creamery
Cecilia's Cafe
Joey K's
La Piazza Al Forno
Slim's Last Chance Chili Shack
Twisted Root Burger Co.
I'm in the process of linking these videos into my Diners, Drive-ins and Dives episode guide, and am close to being finished. But if you'd like to go directly to Eeldarb's YouTube page at www.youtube.com/user/Eeldarb, you can search for the segments from your favorite episodes directly.
You'll see in the upper right-hand side the three most recent uploaded videos, just under a blank search box:
You can search by restaurant name, like Silk City Diner:
Or you can search by city, like Chicago:
Or you can search by the two-letter abbreviation for any state, like TX for Texas:
Moreover, if you know the episode number for the show of interest, you can type that in too! Like 105, for the BBQ (DV0105) episode.
Warning: Watching these videos may cause hunger. Eat first. Just sayin'.

Reviews and comments on the Guy Fieri Road Show
Five days into the Guy Fieri Road Show tour, reviews so far are between favorable and enthusiastic.

And another's tweet, just got your autograph on my leg tattooed---looks sick ! thanks for a great time in CT ! was worth the trip from long island.
And another's, Guy Fieri Road Show was amazing! I am shocked at how awesome a live cooking show can be!
Another's, The Guy Fieri show was pretty good. Not much cooking but very entertaining.
Click here to see quite a few (rather blurry) pictures from a recent meet & greet with Guy Fieri and the Road Show crew. If you had your picture taken with Guy Fieri at a show or meet & greet, visit www.guyfieri.com/guysightings to find and download your picture.

And Sunny Anderson (Cooking For Real) blogs about her guest appearance at the show in Wallingford, CT. Click here to read and see her backstage and onstage pictures.
It's been fun hearing about the excitement from fans when they see the tour buses in town, and hearing about Guy Fieri sightings out and about.
Just saw Guy Fieri at the Whole Foods in NC. I'm still shaking! (tweet)
saw @ChefGuyFieri leaving @thePitBBQ as we were walking back to our car. (tweet)
Guy and his krew visited The Pit BBQ, famous in North Carolina for its BBQ, certainly, but also for having beat a BBQ Ribs and Baked Beans Throwdown with Bobby Flay, for which owner and pitmaster Ed Mitchell is understandably quite proud. Haha.
Found @chefguyfieri 's buses and trucks!!! Hes got his picture all over them, pretty awesome for a cooking tour!! (tweet)
The buses have been causing a lot of buzz, with sightings in towns and on the roads. They were wrapped, rather than painted, by Fastwrapz. Visit them online at www.fastwrapz.com or on Facebook to see their work.
There are shows tonight and tomorrow in the southeast before the tour takes a Thanksgiving break and picks up again in the midwest through the western states.

Prostart students assist Guy Fieri on Road Show
Regular readers may recall that Guy Fieri attended the Prostart Invitational in San Diego, April of 2009. The event was filmed by his production company, Ragtop Productions.
The resulting show, Guy Fieri’s Top of the Class, is scheduled to premiere Saturday, December 5, 2009, on the Food Network.
This behind-the-scenes special reveals what happens when aspiring teenage chefs gather in San Diego, Calif., for one of the toughest youth culinary competitions in the country – the National ProStart Invitational. Thirty-nine teams compete for almost $1.1 million in cash, prizes and scholarships. Guy Fieri hosts as the students race to complete a three-course meal before the hour runs out.
Bert Cutino, chef and co-founder of the Sardine Factory restaurant in Monterey, California is one of the judges.
The ProStart program operates in 47 states, in over 1,000 schools, involving approximately 78,000 students and well over 5,000 educators. It includes mentoring, paid internships, promoting entrepreneurship, basic business skill development, nationally certified exams, scholarships, state and national competitions and post-secondary opportunities in the form of articulation agreements with culinary and hospitality programs throughout the U.S. with the purpose of generating qualified and capable professionals for today and the future.
As part of the current Guy Fieri Road Show, Guy has invited high school level culinary students to assist him as interns at each of his shows. Students will conduct prep work, mise en place, and stand by to assist Guy where necessary.
The students say they can relate to Guy Fieri, and that he, in turn, can relate to the next generation of chefs. Matthew Capprini, 18, said that he gets some of his culinary ideas from watching "Guy's Big Bite."
"I'm proud to represent our school and be there to kick off Guy's tour," said Capprini.
Chosen students are excited to participate. A Prostart instructor said the students started shrieking and jumping up and down. "I kept repeating, 'Oh man, I can't believe this is happening,'" said senior Kyle Briggs, 17, of Amesbury.
“The Michigan Restaurant Association contacted us, and we certainly weren’t going to say no,” said chef Corbett Day, hospitality and culinary arts instructor at the LISD Tech Center. "This will look good on college applications.”
“Guy loves ProStart and is very excited to be able to have the kids help him out,” Amanda Smith, a spokeswoman for Fieri, wrote in her e-mail contacting Day.

Guy Fieri kicks off Road Show in Lowell
Guy Fieri started his 21-city Road Show tour last night in Lowell, Massechussets. Philadelphia is next on the list. Here's a brief YouTube video from Lowell:

Of course, not everyone was overwhelmed. An anonymous ticket holder said, "... I was extremely disappointed. ... Don't believe them when they tell you that everybody gets a sample or a margarita, unless you pay 250 bucks to be on stage with him. There really wasn't much "rock 'n roll" involved either."

The Lowell Sun reviewed the performance saying, in part,
"I came for the food, but only got a whiff," joked Robin Metcalf of Billerica, who was seated near the back row. "It's OK, though. I got to experience something I never have before. It's like a concert, with spaghetti."Read the full article here.
Fieri tossed al dente noodles about the stage, as if he was smashing a guitar like an angst-filled musician. His backup band, Dirty Pete and Cletus, worked the crowd including some VIP guests seated in bistro chairs to the right and left.
Gary Sutner of Gardner had his plan in place before Fieri even fired up the burner. He was determined to meet Fieri after the show and get him to sign a copy of his latest cookbook, which Sutner's girlfriend bought for his birthday.
"I told her if she wanted me to cook anything it would only be one of Guy's recipes," he said. "I don't do Martha Stewart or that 30-minute stuff. Guy is the man."
Rolling out a giant blender, the spiky-haired chef poured a number of bottles of tequila into its oversized pitcher. In true rocker form, he chugged the last swig from the bottle before heading back behind his stove to "wok and roll" out a helping of Hong Kong Noodles -- one of his signature dishes.
"What a way to kick off a tour. Lowell knows how to have a good time," yelped Fieri pumping his fist. "This ain't yo mama's cooking show."

Popeater.com interviews Guy Fieri
Popeater.com had a lengthy interview with Guy Fieri recently. Click here to read the full article.
Where did the idea (for the Guy Fieri Road Show) come from?
Here's what happens. As a young chef, the greatest way to go out and get publicity is to go to farmer's markets or the county fair, whatever you can do to highlight your food and yourself. That's what I was doing. I opened my restaurants, they continued to grow and grow, then I go on Food Network and I win, what ends up happening is that I go to these big time food events now and everybody's doing their demos. You go and watch Jaques Pepin or you watch Bobby Flay, these guys bring some game. So I'm like, "I bring game," I just could never do it at the county fair. I started to do the show my way and when the guy is putting on my lapel mike, I said "Hey here's my iPod. Don't give me the elevator intro music, give me my music, some Lynyrd Skynyrd, some Motley Crue" and it just started growing. My numbers were blowing through the roof. I was doing a show in South Beach last year, I was rockin' and rolling, I came offstage and my agent goes, "What was that?" and I'm thinking, "Oh God, I'm in trouble." She said, "That was the most out of control cooking I've ever seen. Can you do that again?" And I said, "I can do that times ten." And she said, "Oh gosh, we gotta take this cross country." And that was it, that's how it all started. The show is about, if you love food like I love food and you're into the world of food like I'm into the world of food, then why shouldn't there be a food-a-palooza? Why shouldn't there be a food thing? We get together, we bring some other chefs in. We make food, we tell stories about food, we talk about 'Diners Drive-ins and Dives,' we cook food, we make some drinks, we have some laughs, we pull some antics and we just have a food concert. Now, concert doesn't sound right. "Guy Fieri presents a Culinary Concert, seven breads of Beethoven." No. I don't have Metallica coming out making paninis and I don't have Motley Crue doing flambee, it's just jamming to some good music, having some fun, having a wild audience, eating some food, telling some stories, having some laughs, and hanging out for a few hours. My interest beyond that was, I've got the greatest fans in the world who put me on the map, made my show number one and there are not enough times when you get to interact. Besides seeing your favorite person on TV, when do you ever get to see them live, see them real? That's the point. See it live, see it real.
When you say you have other chefs coming in, who will they be?
We have different diners drive-ins and dives that we've gone to across the country and they have all said, "I want to come by." You would not believe the requests that other agents of celebrities have been sending to my guys, saying "So and so wants to come," and I am just dying. One, I've gotta perform in front of some of my favorite guys, two how do I not get starstruck by them? It's two fat rock and roll tour buses wrapped with the whole logo thing on them, a big semi hauling the stage, this is a $150,000 stage that's going along. Audience members sitting on the stage. It's going to be bananas.
You've exploded on the food scene. Did you ever think in your wildest dreams you'd be doing something like this?
I said to Carrie Underwood the other day, "Has this been mind blowing or what?" and she said, "Yup." I don't know how to explain it to you. I think about a lot of the 'firsts' in my life. The first time I opened a restaurant, when my son was born. It's really indescribable. There's the good and the bad, it's not just one blissful vacation. I've never worked this hard in my life. Three shows on the Food Network, over 200 days on the road last year. I could do every day on the road, I would never stop working, but the most important people in my life are my sons and my wife, that's the only thing that kills me.
...
Have you ever been shocked by a celebrity who's a fan of yours?
I run into people all the time, random people who like the show, like football players -- anybody that has to travel, because a lot of time you sit in your hotel room -- I think the biggest mind-blowing call ever was from Matthew McConaughey. Not only is he a great guy, but he is a great support to me with advice. He is the kind of celebrity, one who has a positive image and gives back to charity with his foundation, who I really admire. I really take his advice to heart.
With all the fans and the fame there's always some, not necessarily haters, but dissenters. And in the case of 'SNL,' satire. What do you think of all that?
I love it. I think it's hysterical. Obviously that's not offensive, come on. With 'SNL,' their skits were great, on point. I do speak very crazily, weird. I do have my own vocabulary and say odd words, "This is off the hook." I thought they couldn't have done that better. And in terms of the negative, I don't subscribe to that. It's out there, that's fine. I'm not going to combat it -- not that I don't take advice from people. If I'm doing something wrong and someone has some insight, I always want to improve and grow, but anybody that's smackdown, that's not in my world.
With the 'SNL' thing, have they approached you to come be in a skit at all? Would you do that?
I will tell you this, I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag... since I was a little kid I never wanted to be a TV star, or movie star -- of course I'd like to be. I wanted to be in 'Caddyshack' so bad if they would make 'Caddyshack 9' I would sell the farm to be in it. But always, as a dream as a kid I've always wanted to be on 'Saturday Night Live.' So when they did the parody on me, that was the step. "Oh my God, they recognized me! I am somebody!" Kinda like Steve Martin when his name was in the phonebook. So I don't know, I'm fulfilling some dreams... and if they called I think that would be the crescendo of the career.
You said something about letting the cat out of the bag, I thought they might have called already.
Oh no. I didn't know if I wanted to say. I don't want to be weird about it. Be like, "I hope someday to go to the moon..." I love what 'SNL' does. I think that parody and satire, when it's coming from the right spot, is one of the most healthy things we can do. If you can't laugh at yourself, laughing to me is one of the absolutes.
Well I hope they call. It would be great to see you in a skit with Bobby Moynihan (who played Guy in the original parody)
I have skit ideas. I know people who work at 'Saturday Night Live' and I've passed along to them, "Please tell Bobby I've got some ideas!" Either with me being involved or not involved, I have some that I think would be a riot.
You mentioned you don't subscribe to the negative, but with regard to the dissenters or non-fans, where do you think that negativity comes from?
I am so odd about what I choose to tune into in life. I really try never to pre-judge or judge anybody. You either like someone or you don't. Either you like their food or you don't. Once I'm off the "I don't like it" or "It's not my cup of tea," I'm off it. There are so many great things going on, I don't understand why people get negative. Why spend your time talking about it? If you don't like it, then just get off it. But I will say this about chefs, it's a very interesting world of where people come from in cooking. It's a very disciplined and active. It's just to me like looking at a painter or a musician or anybody that's doing an art and it comes from different parts of people. We've all heard stories about great artists, great musicians, but then they're also not very cool -- who aren't nice to their people. I guess everybody has their own zone. I will tell you, and I'm kind of the new guy on the scene, my guys that I hang out with -- when I can, because I'm in California and they're all here -- Bobby Flay, Emeril [Lagasse], Mario [Batali], Giada [de Laurentiis], Rachel [Ray], all of them are incredibly cool. And I can see why, given that I'm the new guy, they wouldn't have to be. Rachel has given me phenomenal advice. Emeril wrote the damn foreword to my book. To me, and I don't run in all the circles of all the chefs, but the one great chef I know here in New York, Michael Psilakis, who's an awesome dude -- beyond awesome -- those are my benchmarks. It's kind of like in the literary world as well. Everybody's got an opinion, everybody's got a feeling, I take the advice and recommendations from the people who are close to me that feels constructive and helpful. Everybody's got their own boat to float.
Any chance you might highlight any healthy things on your shows? Something that is both nutritious and tasty?
I've done quite a few vegetarian pieces - my sister is a vegetarian.
Vegetarian doesn't always mean healthy though...
Very true. I am working on some diabetic recipes, I've had a lot of requests for that, which I think is very necessary. I have some friends with Celiac, so I'm trying to look into some of that but I'll tell ya, it's always misconstrued. Kinda like if you're a rock band you don't play love songs. If you're a wild and crazy chef like me, probably the stuff you make isn't so great for you but I really try to diversify my culinary portfolio. When I do 'Diners,' it seems like a lot of the food is fried, but we were doing a calculation the other day and I don't even think that 20% of what we do on the show is fried. I divert away from fried before I go to fried, if I can. I'll highlight other items. We've got to improve our palates. It's about moderation. I don't think you need to totally abstain from it, but I do think we need to have more whole grains... no offense, but for 'Diners,' a salad is not sexy. You should eat it, but it doesn't make great TV. My routine every morning is a cup of coffee and a banana. Even when I don't feel like a banana, I eat one. My new regimen is whenever I have snacking urges, I eat a piece of fruit and just try to keep it available to me. We gotta eat 7-10 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. This health issue we've got going on in this world is not because the atmosphere is changing.
Guy Fieri makes appearances at Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio
Guy Fieri made his appearance in Youngstown, Ohio, Friday the 13th of November, at the Green Bay @ Youngstown hokey game. He hosted a meatball eating contest mid-ice and took a shot at the goal during half time.
Not everyone in attendance was able to meet Guy Fieri and Joey Fatone; frustrating, to say the least.
bummed here, was @ the hockey game 2 nite. Security cut off the m&g line before I could get in it. : ( - tweet
Did not meet Guy Fieri. Promoter Bruce Zolden couldn't organize a tea party. It was a disaster of Torchsong proportions. - tweet
Guy Fieri also made a one-day appearance at the Fabulous Food Show in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, the 14th of November, 2009. He did three cooking demonstrations and had two book signing sessions. If you had your picture taken with Guy Fieri and were told to go to guyfieri.com to download or print, you can find your pictures at www.guyfieri.com/guysightings.
News on the Guy Fieri Road Show:
The company hired to decorate the outside of the two tour buses completed their work (tweet), and the buses have been sighted on the highways (tweet). Bus pictured below, parked in Lowell, MA, on Monday November 16, 2009, the day before the tour starts. www.fastwrapz.com
And the Lowell Sun did a very nice interview with Guy Fieri last week, in preperation for the first stop on the Guy Fieri Road Show. Click here to read the full article.
Q: Have you always secretly wanted to be a rock star?
A: Secretly? I'd stand atop the tallest building and yell it! I have always wanted to be a rock star. Just a couple of minor things have hindered it, though. One is that I have a complete inability to sing and another is I can't play an instrument. No one would want to come hear me sing.
...
Q: I know how important your wife and kids are. How much family time do you get?
A: I will not lie, that really is the toughest part. Doing all that I do, there's not a lot of break time. And I'm in New York for a book tour right now -- for my new book, it can be tough enough as it is.
...
Q: Describe your place in the pantheon of the food TV boom. If Paula Dean is everybody's saucy aunt, Anthony Bourdain is travel through food and Adam Richman's "Man Vs. Food" is how much a man can hold, what is "Diners, Drive-in and Dives"?
A: I'd say it's kind of like the whole thing, the lifestyle. It's America. It highlights the food, the location and the people and the history and entertainment. It's all of it. It's not a cooking show or a travel show. It's a life story about America.
Q: So you were the subject of a recent Saturday Night Live parody. What's that like?
A: Aw, man. SNL was always the thing for me. I had to watch. You'd stay up late to see Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin. If I ever get to host Saturday Night Live, that will be the crescendo. Good night! Thanks for coming! That's the pinnacle. And if that would ever happen, who knows or not. To be parodied? So I mean, come on. That's the biggest thing that's happened to me. And Bobby Moynihan, the guy who does me, is hysterical.
Q: Can you describe the show we'll see in Lowell?
A: The show is for people who love food and can't get enough and think there's gotta be more to say about food. That there's gotta be more songs about food. It's an interesting mix. It's high-energy, food, obviously, cooking, laughing, stories, music. All at the same time. I'll make food, there'll be some other chefs. It's like Food-a-palooza. I just have fun when I cook.
...
Q: Describe your ultimate food show.
A: I'm bringing it to you.

Guy Fieri: the Glenn Beck of Food?
New York's The Daily Beast wrote what may be one of the most talked-about and balanced interview / articles about Guy Fieri I have read. (And yes, I have a brief mention.) Read the full article here.
The topic: Fieri fans v. culinarians. (Is that a word? Well if it wasn't before, it is now. ~D)
Author Rachel Syme writes, "Fieri's meteoric ascent is impressive, but it also makes him one of the culinary world's most polarizing figures. For as many fans as Fieri earns ... he draws equal detractors." Of this, we are all well aware.
The article quotes detractors: Jillian Madison of FoodNetworkHumor.com and David Chang's and Anthony Bourdain's comments from a talk at this year's New York Food & Wine Festival. It also quotes supporters Susie Fogulson from the Food Network, agent Jason Hodes, and perhaps surprisingly (?) comedian Bobby Moynihan from Saturday Night Live.
And of course, Guy Fieri speaks of those who, shall we say, don't appreciate his style. "If someone doesn't like that I wear a wristband or thinks my hair is stupid, I don't care.” He continues, “I think as soon as we start creating sides, we start to develop us and them, ... I have buddies that are Michelin chefs; I know all those guys. I'm not concerned about alienating the white-starched coats. It's like music. Do classical musicians say that rock is wrong?"
There was one interesting tidbit of information in this article, of interest to fans of Guy Fieri. "'His real name is Ferry,' says Madison, referring to Fieri's changing of his last name when he was married. Fieri says he wanted to honor his immigrant grandfather...." And that seems to answer the why did he change his last name question. Thank you Ms. Syme.

Guy Fieri: supporting troops here and overseas
Here's a Veteren's Day post, a day early. But it's never too early to thank those who fight for our freedoms.
Guy Fieri will be donating copies of his new book More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and copies of DVD's from Triple D to soldiers serving overseas.
Recently, when in Hawaii filming for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Guy Fieri, his son Hunter and his crew worked with Navy cooks and prepared a meal at Pearl Harbor for the military stationed there and their families.

Guy Fieri on Guy's Big Bite - #05 refrigerator
Greg & the Morning Buzz on Rock 101, WGIR, based in Manchester, NH, interviewed Guy Fieri by phone on November 4, 2009. The interview is about 13 minutes. Click here to listen.
The radio hosts asked several interesting questions. The one most interesting to me, mostly because I'm asked this question almost daily, where did the number 05 come from on Guy's refrigerator on the Guy's Big Bite set? Guy hesitated answering, but here's the story.
"The number on the fridge was supposed to be the Evel Knievel number 01, ok? So my producers said that the 01 didn't look right. So they went through and started rattling off numbers.
'02?'
'No, 02 is second place.'
'03?'
'No, that's odd.'
'04?'
'No, that's too even.'
'05?'
'Ok I like 05.'
So 05 made it on there."
Side note: Tom, I know you'll be reading this, haha. If you're looking for a birthday present for Guy, this signed Evel Knievel #1 patch pictured above is for sale. :)
Guy Fieri has long been a fan of Evel Knievel. So much so that Guy has a #1 tattooed on his arm. Here's that story, from Tattoo Magazine, July '09. Click here to view the entire article.
GF: One day I was having a birthday party—Festivus Maximus we call it—which usually goes on for a week. I opened the door and standing there was Joe [Joe Leonard, of Monkey Wrench Tattoo, Santa Rosa] with a tattoo gun in his hand. He gave me a tattoo I had wanted for a long time, a platinum grenade. Why I wanted it, I don’t know; I just did and he made it happen. He also did the Evel Knievel inspired #1 on my right arm. I’m a big Evel fan, but it’s a cross between that and a slot machine #1 because I went to school in Las Vegas.

Pictures and comments from D.C's Metro Cooking Show
Guy Fieri gave a cooking demonstration in the Celebrity Theater on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show, Washington D.C.
By all accounts, Guy's show had rave reviews. Here's what ticket holders had to say about Guy's demonstration:
"Guy Fieri was so much fun! He rocked the house and cooked 2 great dishes."
"Guy Fieri's theater show is part Gallagher, part American Idol and very funny"
Andrew Powaleny, who was a volunteer at the event, had this to say, "While we only saw a little bit of Guy Fieri he seemed really well versed in how to entertain a crowd. He actually did cook on stage and was fielding questions and hugs the entire time."
Guy made Pork El Fuego. Click here for the recipe.
Guy's demonstration was late morning, and in the early afternoon he had time for a meet & greet and book signing.
A long-time fan had this to say about her experience, meeting Guy Fieri.

I have been a fan of Guy Fieri ever since his days on the next food network star season 1. We have been rooting for him then and we are STILL rooting for him now with his great success.
Not only was his show "off the hook", but his meet and greet was the topping to it all! He is very humble, great personality and the most hilarious guy ever (and you can see that personality shine in his shows). I hope he will be back next year! =)

Fieri and Fatone will meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photographs before and during the game, said Alex Zoldan, team president. They also will likely appear for some intermission activities.
Neither will perform or give a cooking demonstration.
The two men are friends of the Zoldan family, which owns the team. Fieri is in Cleveland this week giving cooking demonstrations, and Fatone had wanted to come to a hockey game, so the Zoldans arranged to have them both come to Friday’s game, said Zoldan.
The Phantoms will take on the first-place Green Bay Gamblers at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster and at the arena box office.
