Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month, I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them.

Ray, Florida wrote: "Did Guy Fieri drive anything other than the Camaro on early episodes of DDD? (my wife and I have a bet)"

Our answer: "Hi Ray! He sure did. You can see Guy driving a dark blue '66 Mustang in the first season, www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCuhtoxqKXk, at The Beacon Drive-in, in South Carolina and also here, www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSaIU1f5TNw, at The Bayway Diner in Linden, NJ. So who wins the bet? :)"

Ray's reply: ")-: My wife wins the bet. I have watched (thought I did) every episode and I could have sworn (falsely) that he only drove the Camaro. Oh well, my wife needs to win sometimes (actually, she wins too often). Thank you very much for your quick response! Kind regards, Ray"

Ray and his wife have inspired me to do a bit of further research, listing all the cars that have appeared on the show. Certainly the '67 Camaro and the 'Stang, but Guy's Shelby Cobra has also made a cameo on the show, and of course there was the "Woody" in the Hawaii episodes. We'll do further research and see what we can come up with. Thanks Ray!

Guy Fieri in recent news, December 2010

Every so often, tidbits of Guy Fieri-related news and interviews don't make it into our regular posts. Today seems like a good day to play catch-up.

The Wall Street Journal recently interviewed Lee Schrager, founder and mastermind behind the South Beach and New York City Food and Wine Festivals. Excerpt:

But the secret of his success as a festival organizer might be the patience and attention he lavishes on the stars.

Festival veteran and Food Network star Guy Fieri recalled the time he asked Schrager if he could make pancakes out of organic batter and coloring and bring kids out of the stands to a buffet of toppings. Schrager responded: "OK Guy, that sounds interesting." More recently, Fieri asked that 10 KitchenAid mixers be tricked out like hot rods for auction.

"Even when I throw out, 'OK Lee, so I want to cook on the moon and everybody gets to fly the space shuttle.' 'OK Guy, that sounds interesting,'" Fieri said with a laugh.

Those KitchenAid mixers, together with $4 million in ticket sales, raise over $2 million each year for the Florida International University School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center.

And Johnny Garlic's, co-owned by Guy Fieri and Steve Gruber, will open their 4th location in Dublin, CA. The expansion project is set for a March 2011 opening.

Diablomag.com writes, "Johnny Garlic's menu is packed with a variety of comfort food favorite like Tri Tip Dip sandwich, Fire-Roasted Quesadilla, Cajun Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, and Pesto Goat Cheese Pizza."

AroundDublinBlog.com adds, "Johnny Garlic’s General Manager Neil McDowell said that Guy and the entire Johnny Garlic’s family is 'excited about opening in Dublin.'"

"Ultimate Recipe Showdown" season 3 repeats

In case you missed them, Ultimate Recipe Showdown episodes from Season 3 repeat on The Food Network starting Monday, December 20, 2010 at 7:00PM/6c.

Party Foods airs on Monday the 20th, followed by Comfort Foods on Tuesday, Hot and Spicy on Wednesday and Burgers on Thursday. On Friday December 24th, two back-to-back episodes, Cakes and Desserts and Hometown Favorites, air starting at 6:00PM/5c.

The first season aired in March 2008 with dual hosts, Marc Summers and Guy Fieri. Guy took the reins solo in the second season, which aired in February 2009. This third season originally aired in March 2010.



At the time of this writing, there has been ZERO buzz about a 4th season of Ultimate Recipe Showdown.

Guy Fieri always has friends coming over, and today he has Matthew McConaughey to lend a hand in the kitchen. The two begin with roasted Malibu Oysters and a bubby Ting cocktail. For the main course, an herb-rubbed pork roast with pesto veggies is served alongside Farro Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette. Matthew makes his favorite margarita to finish the meal with style.

I run into people all the time, random people who like the show, like football players -- anybody that has to travel, because a lot of time you sit in your hotel room -- I think the biggest mind-blowing call ever was from Matthew McConaughey. Not only is he a great guy, but he is a great support to me with advice. He is the kind of celebrity, one who has a positive image and gives back to charity with his foundation, who I really admire. On a more somber note, The Nook, a favorite burger joint in St. Paul, Minnesota, was destroyed by fire in an early morning fire. CBS Minnesota reported that the fire started around 3:30 a.m. in the kitchen.



The owners, Ted Casper and Mike Runyon, plan to rebuild The Nook. “We won’t quit. We’ll fix it, but it’s just, we have to start all over,” said Runyon. “Just another story in the long life of The Nook, I guess.” Click here for the story. For a photo of the interior, click here.

More on "Minute to Win It" holiday episodes

On Monday, December 6th, Guy Fieri set up a satellite feed from Johnny Garlic's in Windsor, CA, to do "Minute to Win It" interviews with various news agencies around the country, promoting NBC's holiday-themed episodes of the "life changing" game show.

The first of the three episodes aired last week on Tuesday, December 7th with a repeat on Friday the 10th. The second airs tomorrow, Tuesday, December 14, 2010 and also repeats on Friday the 17th. The last of the three is scheduled to air on December 21st.

Pop Culture Passionistas has uploaded four snippets of their interview time on YouTube.

The show has performed well for NBC in the Nielsen ratings; almost 7 million viewers tuned in on December 7th, and almost 5 million tuned in to the repeat on December 10th. More importantly, "Minute to Win It" tied for for the lead in the all-important 18-49 demographic on the 10th.

Like many game shows and most reality shows, "Minute to Win It" is rated TV-PG; it may be unsuitable for younger children, under age 10, without the guidance of a parent. Many parents watch "Minute to Win It" with their younger children, and the show has been criticized for its suggestive costuming, camera angles and the humorous names for the games.

But as much as we are fans of Guy Fieri, truly, the games are the star of the show. Elementary and secondary schools all over the country (and the world) have "Minute to Win It" events; colleges, bars, radio stations and companies use the games at their get-togethers and many a birthday party has had a "Minute to Win It" theme this year.
