Garlic and herbs on meat, chorizo in salad, even tequila in dessert -- sounds a little crazy! But next time you grill a steak, do as Guy Fieri does and look no further than South America for inspiration. Gaucho Steak and Four Herb Chimichurri, Spinach and Chick Pea Sauté and a Tequila Lime Tart.
Wow. I take a day or two away from blogging, and my email inbox if full, full, full. Here's a brief rundown of the past few days.
The Sun Chronicle reports that fans flocked to downtown Attleboro, Mass, to Morin's Diner in hopes of participating in the Triple-D taping scheduled there on Thursday of this week, July 27th, 2009. I suppose this is why the restaurants are not announced in advance, hmm?
Devoted fans started lining up outside the diner at 4 a.m. "I think some regulars stayed away because they knew what was going on," said owner Billy Morin.
A group of roughly 25 greeted Fieri, including this young fan at left, who had her Diners, Drive-ins and Dives cookbook autographed.
Additional taping will be done 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, to interview guests. Guy will not be present at the second taping.
I rarely see so many Twitters from Guy - one of note - "Just fyi not in kansas city, someone sayin they're me." (Guy's Twitter) So the Kansas City Impostor is still afoot. Argh. Read more about the K.C. Impostor and a Vegas Impersonator here.
Now people are beginning to wonder with whom are they having their picture taken - check out this picture from mmattozzi, titled "Guy Fieri: Probably Not," taken at Comic-Con in San Diego July 25, 2009:
I'm also beginning to suspect there is a Guy Fieri Impostor in Seattle, too. Several Twitters I've seen have him there, when the media has him clear across the country. Does make one wonder ....

While in New York this morning, Friday July 31st, the real Guy Fieri made an appearance on Good Morning America, where they claim Guy's S'more Pizza isn't just for kids!
Ingredients: 2 store bought pizza dough 1/2 cup bench flour 1/4 cup corn meal 3 cups mini marshmallows 2 bars dark chocolate 1 sleeve graham crackers, crushed 1/4 cup slivered almonds 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions: Preheat oven or grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Form pizza dough into 12" – 14" rounds, ¼ inch thick. Bake in oven on pizza stone for 6-8 minutes or until just beginning to brown.
Grill method: Use indirect method: Form dough round, slide onto hot grill, let cook for 3 minutes, turn and add toppings, close grill lid to melt, serve immediately
While pizza crust is cooking, toast slivered in a sauté pan over medium high heat.
Remove and in same pan, melt butter.
When butter is melted, add in graham cracker crumbs, chili powder, cayenne and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat and set aside.
Remove from oven and top with half of the marshmallows, randomly place one bar of chocolate over marshmallows, return to oven, 3-5 minutes of until marshmallows are puffed and lightly browned.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with the graham cracker mixture and top with the toasted slivered almonds. Let rest 3-4 minutes, slice and serve.
And if you like the look of that, check out S'more Eggrolls.
And Guy's Gaucho Steak with 4-Herb Chimichurri popped up again. The recipe has been featured in Family Circle Magazine, on Parents.com and in Sunset Magazine.

Last note: if anyone snaps some nice pictures at the Atlantic City Wine & Food Festival (harrahs.com)this weekend and you'd like to share, just send me a note. Thanks! I'll be particularly interested in hearing how many people handed $1000 over for "The Feast of Fieri!"

Several of Guy Fieri's backyard barbecue recipes are featured in the July 2009 issue of Family Circle magazine, now posted on Parents.com. And what are the recommendations for a backyard meal? Several recipes from Guy's Big Bite and two new ones.

Jimmy's Favorite Garlic Bread - recipe - a sourdough loaf baked with Italian-seasoned garlic butter and topped with a tomato basil salsa, roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes and Parmesan cheese.
This recipe first aired on the second episode in the first season of Guy's Big Bite, called Kickin' Cajun Alfredo. Other recipes from that episode are Cajun Chicken Alfredo and Caesar Salad.
New! Asian Street Sandwiches - recipe - sliced grilled pork roast topped with Asian mint-marinated cucumbers, lettuce, cilantro and mayonnaise blended with oyster and chili garlic sauces.
The pork is marinated with the same flavors found in the rest of the sandwich plus garlic and ginger. Guy first tried a similar sandwich on the road and developed his own version of it. (more from this episode)
Gaucho Steak with 4-Herb Chimichurri - recipe - a grilled skirt steak, marinated in tequila, lemon and lime juice, garlic and cilantro, topped with a chimichurri sauce of vinegar and oil, onion, peppers, chiles, herbs and spices.
You just don't get more classic Fieri than those flavors. This recipe was part of Guy's Big Bite's fourth season, an episode called South of the Border. Other recipes included Spinach and Chick Pea Sauté (recipe) and the Tequila Lime Tart pictured above.
Chili Rice - recipe - a spiced rice dish flavored with onions, peppers, garlic and chilis, bolstered with tomatoes, ground beef or turkey and kidney beans.
Perhaps my all-time favorite episode of Guy's Big Bite, this recipe is from Shotgun Bird in the third season. The show also featured Big Bud's Beer Can Chicken, Guid-Olives and a favorite drink from the college days, Shoot the Root.
New! Bayou BBQ Chop Salad - recipe - Barbecue saucy chicken on a salad of lettuce, cucumber, tomato and mushrooms with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing and topped with fried onions, cheese and pepperoncini.
The chicken is grilled or broiled, then chopped into pieces and combined with bbq sauce. The recipe describes how to make your own fried onions, similar to the ones Guy used to re-invent the classic green bean casserole, The Mean Green, from Dear Food Network, Thanksgiving Disasters.
Tequila Lime Tart - recipe - a classic lime pie filling (just add tequila!) on a vanilla wafer and pine nut crust.
Also from the South of the Border episode, this is an easy and tasty pie. I've replaced the pine nuts with macadamia nuts and added lime zest to the filling. Any way, it's a winner.
Restaurant Radio, based from Chicago IL, spoke to Guy Fieri recently about his Labor Day cooking plans. Listen here. The show has plans to broadcast from Johnny Garlic's on October 2; tune in!

Sunset Magazine did a nice article on some of Guy Fieri's campground cooking tips and recipes. The magazine shot these pictures in September of 2008 at Bodega Bay, and Guy Fieri fan T.A. Gowdy was on hand to snap a couple pictures.
Camp cooking tips from Guy * If you organize everything before you go, you’ll eat better and faster (important when you’ve been hiking).
* Cross-utilize your groceries by building leftovers into your meal plans. For instance, save bacon fat from breakfast to fry potatoes for dinner. Make sure you keep the fat, and all your food, away from animals.
* Invest in a camp Dutch oven. You can use it for everything from frying an egg to boiling water and, best of all, it has little legs so you can set the pot right over coals ― no flat surface needed.
* Keep things at least semiclean with antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, or a spray bottle of bleach solution (1 tbsp. bleach in 1 qt. water).
