Guy Fieri signature line of Gatorz sunglasses

Some of the most frequently asked questions that I get from fans are about what Guy Fieri wears, specifically his shirts, sunglasses and watches. Some time ago, a newsletter was sent out from GuyFieri.com that a line of Guy Fieri signature Gatorz sunglasses would be available for the public to purchase.

At the time of this writing, those glasses aren't available on GuyFieri.com, but they are available on Gatorz.com

Some lucky few who've attended the Guy Fieri Road Show have had a chance to win a pair of Guy Fieri Gatorz glasses. It's quite a prize; they retail for $169.

Click here to buy online, perfect timing for a holiday gift. The glasses are offered in black or polish frames with chrome lenses.

There has been talk about a line of Guy Fieri signature Doxa watches too. As soon as I hear about them, I'll let you know.

2nd leg of the Guy Fieri Road Show ...

Today, December 2, 2009 starts the second leg of the Guy Fieri Road Show. The first leg started on November 17 in Lowell, MA and paused after the show in Atlanta, GA for a Thanksgiving break. Almost daily, there are news articles and interviews about the upcoming shows.

Click here to listen to Guy Fieri with on KCMO talk radio in Kansas City, MO. The Road Show is scheduled at the Midland on December 7, 2009.

And Twitter is a-buzz with tour bus sightings on the road:

  • Just saw the @chefguyfieri roadshow tour bus northbound on I57 in I'LL just south of Monee! (tweet)

  • Just saw the Guy Fieri Road Show bus heading up to the Wisconsin border on Rte 41! (tweet)

  • And Guy Fieri sightings in L.A. and at the airport:

  • Just saw Guy Fieri at the airport. He's wearing a jacket that says "Kulinary Gangster" on the back (tweet)

  • Eating @ the Bazaar @ sls. Guy Fieri walks in wearing a jacket that has Culinary Gangster embroidered on the back... (tweet)

  • LOL i think i saw him in the Starbux line at LAX this morning wearing that same jacket (tweet)

  • Haha, I love Twitter. I suspect that this TwitPic from @ChefGuyFieri was taken at the Bazaar???

In preparation for the Road Show in Mesa, Arizona, Foodies Like Us interviewed Guy Fieri recently and wrote a brilliant article. Read the full article here. They say, in part,
This year, we were offered the opportunity to promote Fieri’s Roadshow at the Mesa Arts Center and we decided to host the pre-party that features 11 of the restaurants in Arizona that have been on Triple D. These events will take place on December 18, 2009. ...

When I told him all about the pre-party before his Roadshow in Mesa, uniting all the chefs who have been on the show in Az, he said he “literally have chills,” and “I am so excited to hear you are doing that, you made my day.”

The article has some great questions and quotes. Here are a few of my favorites:
His favorite part of his job is, “The positive impact the shows have had on people. When people tell me I’ve changed their business, then I know I’m doing this right,” he said. ...

I am a huge fan of pitting foods against one another and asking the inevitable: If you only could choose one, which would it be? Here’s what Fieri had to say:

Chocolate vs. Peanut Butter: Peanut Butter—I don’t like chocolate
Wasabi vs. Horseradish: Horseradish—that kills me—I own a restaurant called “Tex Wasabi’s!”
    Steak or lobster: steak
Cherry or strawberry: strawberry, you realize there’s like 17 facets to each of these answers?
Guacamole vs. salsa: Salsa—my head is close to popping off my body with these questions, you know that right?
    Chips or Ice Cream: Chips
    BBQ or Chinese: ahhh Chinese!
Red Wine or White Wine: oh yea red wine
Mojito or Mai Tai: Mai Tai

Do read the rest of the article. It's really very well done. Again, here's the link.

Click here to read about Guy's Thanksgiving. And Guy tells Milwaukee's A.V. Club whether his expectations have been met on the first 7 stops of the Road Show:
Oh, they’ve been met. Exceeded, really. You plan something like this out in your mind and of course, you plan it with the best expectations. How do you take a show that’s about food, about people, about cooking, about fun, and how do you put it all together? But I have two of my best guys out there, a great DJ and some other crazy characters and it’s a total rock ‘n’ roll environment on stage. The biggest crowd we played so far was about 2,300, and, man, we throw a party. It’s been out of control.

Guy's Big Bite - Salute to the Troops

I received a couple of notes from fans trying to find the recipe for Guy's Satay Chicken Salad Wraps, from the Salute To The Troops episode of Guy's Big Bite.

Apparently there was something of a glitch on FoodNetwork.com (big surprise), so I did a little investigating. I contacted the website through their new online chat session, and they had the recipe uploaded within just a few hours.

A big THANK YOU to FoodNetwork.com's customer service. I am just thrilled.

    Guy's Satay Chicken Salad Wraps
    (recipe on FoodNetwork.com)

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, pounded, cut into 1-inch strips
3 tablespoons peeled, roughly chopped ginger
3 tablespoons roughly chopped yellow onion
    2 tablespoons roughly chopped garlic
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
    2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
    1 tablespoon soy sauce
    1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
    1 tablespoon fish sauce
    3 tablespoons peanut oil
    3/4 cup julienne red onion
    1/4 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup julienne red bell pepper
    1/2 cup julienne bok choy
    3/4 cup mung bean sprouts
    1 tablespoon minced ginger
    1 teaspoon minced garlic
    Asian Mayonnaise, recipe follows
    6 naan wraps, purchased

Put the chicken into a resealable gallon-size plastic bag and pound with the flat side of a meat tenderizer to a thickness of 1/2-inch. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the peanut oil, to a food processor, fitted with the bottom blade or a blender, and pulse 5 to 6 times for 2 seconds each or until well blended. Using a new resealable gallon-size plastic bag, add the chicken and the marinade, mix well and refrigerate for 1 hour.

While the chicken is marinating, prepare the Asian Mayonnaise.

Remove the chicken from the marinade and wipe off the excess with a paper towel. Heat a large saute pan over high heat and add 3 tablespoons peanut oil. When the oil is hot, add the chicken, stirring frequently for 3 to 4 minutes. Once cooked through, remove the chicken to a plate and keep warm. To the same pan add the red onions, carrots, red bell peppers, and bok choy and saute for 2 minutes longer. Add in the mung bean sprouts, ginger and garlic and saute for 1 minute. Remove from the heat. Spread all of the naan with the Asian Mayonnaise and top with the chicken satay saute. Roll and serve immediately.

    Asian Mayonnaise:
    1/2 cup mayonnaise
    1 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon finely chopped cilantro leave
2 teaspoons finely chopped green onions

In a small, nonreactive bowl, combine all the ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes, stirring after 15 minutes.

YouTube user has Triple D vid's covered

I noticed a few weeks ago that some nice quality YouTube videos of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives were being uploaded by user Eeldarb. As far as I can tell and at the time of this writing, all but a dozen or so segments have been uploaded. For example,

    Not uploaded yet:
    Dari-ette
    The Creole Creamery
    Cecilia's Cafe
    Joey K's
    La Piazza Al Forno
    Slim's Last Chance Chili Shack
    Twisted Root Burger Co.

I'm in the process of linking these videos into my Diners, Drive-ins and Dives episode guide, and am close to being finished. But if you'd like to go directly to Eeldarb's YouTube page at www.youtube.com/user/Eeldarb, you can search for the segments from your favorite episodes directly.

You'll see in the upper right-hand side the three most recent uploaded videos, just under a blank search box:

You can search by restaurant name, like Silk City Diner:

Or you can search by city, like Chicago:

Or you can search by the two-letter abbreviation for any state, like TX for Texas:

Moreover, if you know the episode number for the show of interest, you can type that in too! Like 105, for the BBQ (DV0105) episode.

Warning: Watching these videos may cause hunger. Eat first. Just sayin'.

Guy and his krew visited The Pit BBQ, famous in North Carolina for its BBQ, certainly, but also for having beat a BBQ Ribs and Baked Beans Throwdown with Bobby Flay, for which owner and pitmaster Ed Mitchell is understandably quite proud. Haha.

Found @chefguyfieri 's buses and trucks!!! Hes got his picture all over them, pretty awesome for a cooking tour!! (tweet)

The buses have been causing a lot of buzz, with sightings in towns and on the roads. They were wrapped, rather than painted, by Fastwrapz. Visit them online at www.fastwrapz.com or on Facebook to see their work.

There are shows tonight and tomorrow in the southeast before the tour takes a Thanksgiving break and picks up again in the midwest through the western states.
