Guy Fieri interview with Nashville's Tennessean

I found a terrific interview of Guy Fieri on www.tennessean.com. Click here to read the full interview.

Where do you eat when you visit (Nashville, TN)? Ever been to Prince’s Hot Chicken? I came down during our hot rod tour eight or nine years ago—before the Food Network, and we drove out in my yellow, big block ’71 Chevelle from Opryland Hotel about midnight. When they ask me how hot I want it, I say “hot!”—It took me a month to repair my mouth. I mean, seriously, that stuff was like the surface of the sun. It was awesome!

Anywhere else? Last time I was here, we spent an evening down at Second and Broadway, went into six or seven joints and saw some of the best bands—what atmosphere! And I met so many great people at all the party spots.

What do you want people to really know about you? What you see is what you get. I’m just a regular guy. I’ve got great parents, wife, kids, friends. Someone who’d seen me on TV once said, “Hey, you’re just like who you are.” That’s all I got. When I go to bed every night, I remind myself I’m just Guy. I gotta keep it real. If you see me getting out of whack, pull me in check, huh? I just want to stay me.

My response: Yup Guy. Will do.

Guy Fieri in New York for media tour

Guy Fieri is in the New York area this week promoting the release of his new book, More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and his upcoming Guy Fieri Road Show.

He did a book signing at Barnes and Noble,

Guy also did a phone interview with AJ in the Morning (website) on star 94.1 KMYI radio in San Diego, CA. To be honest, it isn't so much an interview as it is eavesdropping on the reunion of two old friends. AJ used to dj at a radio station nearby Guy's first restaurant in Santa Rosa, CA. The two were friends, but lost track of each other over the last 8 years. Click here to listen.

And Guy made his second appearance on Late Night with David Letterman. Here he is back stage at the Ed Sullivan Studios in New York, waiting for his segment with Letterman.

And here's the video of Guy Fieri on Late Night with David Letterman.

Guy had spots today on Sirius XM's Ron and Fez show (website), The Absolutely Mindy Show on Kids Place Live (website) and Freewheelin' on Road Dog Trucking (website), where he hooked up with Charlie Daniels, who, by the way, was on the Early Show promoting his own band's tour, "In America." What a day.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, Guy Fieri is scheduled to be on PIX11, New York's Morning News on WPIX-TV.

With many more interviews scheduled for the rest of the week. On Friday, Lorraine Eaton is scheduled to do a phone interview with Guy Fieri, and she is asking fans in the Norfolk, VA area to write in with their questions. Click here to suggest questions and/or to suggest a local chef to open Guy's show at Chrysler Hall.

And if you can stand her (I can't, but maybe you can), tune into the Wendy Williams show (website) on November 11, 2009.

Guy Fieri on the Today Show

Guy Fieri was on NBC's Today show today, November 2, 2009, with Al Roker.

Many are likely familiar with tasty Polish foods such as kielbasa and pierogies, but what about haluski? No, didn’t think so. Food Network star Guy Fieri is about to change that. The host of shows such as “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Guy’s Big Bite” takes the noodle and cabbage dish — popular in Pittsburgh — and gives it his own twist.

Guy Fieri's Holy Haluski

Makes 8 servings

Guy Fieri was inspired by Kelly O's Diner in Pittsburgh, aired on the Regional Classics episode from season 5. Click here to view Kelly O's video from Triple D. He tasted her haluski — a Polish dish common in Pennsylvania — and had to create his own version. Fieri said he decided to create his own because he loves the haluski's great, simple flavors.

INGREDIENTS

• Kosher salt
• 1/4 cup unsalted butter
• 1/2 pound thinly sliced pancetta, diced
• 2 large onions, sliced 1/4 inch thick
• 1 medium head green cabbage, cored and sliced 1/2 inch thick
• 1 cup carrots, cut in 1/4-inch julienne
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
• 8 ounces wide egg noodles
• 3 tablespoons minced garlic
• 3 tablespoons capers, rinsed and drained
• 1 cup green peas, preferably fresh, shelled, but can substitute frozen
• 1/4 cup white wine
• 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

DIRECTIONS

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the noodles.

2. In a large Dutch oven, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat and add the pancetta. Cook, stirring, until crisp, 12 to 14 minutes. Remove the pancetta to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Reserve.

3. Strain the fat from the pancetta into a bowl and wipe the pot clean. Add back in 2 tablespoons of the pancetta fat and melt the remaining 3 tablespoons butter in the pot. Reserve the remaining pancetta fat for another use or discard.

4. Add the onions, cabbage, carrots and thyme. Season with 1 teaspoon salt and half the pepper. Stir to coat the vegetables with the butter. Cover and cook until the cabbage is wilted and almost tender, about 10 minutes. Uncover and simmer until the cabbage is very tender, about 10 more minutes.

5. While the cabbage cooks, add the noodles to the boiling water and cook according to the package directions.

6. Increase the heat to high and cook, stirring, until the cabbage and onions are golden, 10 to 12 minutes. Add in the garlic and capers and cook for 1 minute. Add the peas, deglaze the pan with the white wine and add the lemon juice. Add in three-quarters of the pancetta, combine well and remove from heat.

7. Drain the noodles and add to the pot with the cabbage. Toss well to coat the noodles with the cabbage and onion mixture. Sprinkle with the parsley, remaining pancetta and the remaining pepper.

Serve immediately.

I never said this was a serious blog ....

First entry by Epic Portions, Adventures in Food.

And this second entry, by Consumed and Obsessed

which continues with "America's only living Dragonball-Z character, Guy Fieri ..."

I just about rolled off my chair, laughing.

Then there's this Guy Fieri puppet, one of three wishing Sammi a happy birthday on YouTube (video here). Haha. Yup! Someone took the time to make "Guy Fiery" puppet, along with a French Toast and a Quesadilla. I think this wins the 'Dorable Award' for the week.

Speaking of Food Network artistic impersonations, and because the holiday season will be here before you know it, that's right: from the FN Dish, Food Network Star gingerbread cookies.

I think Guy Fieri looks delicious. Click images to be redirected to their respective blog posts. Life's short! Draw, paint, make puppets and frost cookies. Do it now; it all goes by so quickly. Haha, enjoy.

Guy Fieri on DIY's Garage Mahal show

Guy Fieri on DIY Network's Garage Mahal Monday, November 9th at 10:30pm/9:30c, with Brian Corsetti.

Click here to watch the full, 20-minute episode of Garage Mahal with Guy Fieri on DIY.

Guy Fieri, Food Network's superstar chef, is one busy fella. That's why the Garage Mahal team has come to help him turn his bare garage into a sleek, eclectic space complete with an incredible bar on wheels, diamond plate wainscoting, and a half ton of auto parts including vintage car hoods that raise to reveal flat screen TV's. In the end this garage is transformed into a functional and unique space that is 100% Guy Fieri.

Check Garage Mahal's Guy Fieri's Garage episode page for future air dates and times.

For Autoweek's take on the new garage, click here to read their article and review. They say "The folks from Unique Garage, a company that creates cabinets with custom-image fronts, built a wall's worth of storage whose designs were Fieri's own unique Joe Leonard-drawn tattoos."
