Fan questions, July 2011

Some time ago I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? I receive some 50 questions each month. Here, I share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them. [Some answers are edited for brevity. ~D]

Michael from Anaheim asked, "How bout the best Android app for DDD ? Going on a road trip and it might be handy."

Our answer: The best Android app for DDD we've found so far is www.tripledapp.com. Let us know what you think!

Allegra from New York wrote, "What restaurants has Guy VISITED over the course of every season?"

Our answer: There are several lists of the restaurants Guy has visited ... I think one of the most complete and easy-to-use list-by-episode is on FoodNetwork.com. If that format isn't what you're looking for, please write back, and I'll direct you to a different resource.

--------------------------------------------

Lupe of Stonewall asked, "Did Guy have advice on how to eat what you want and not gain weight? I thought I saw a preview of an interview that was coming up?"

Our answer: Here's the interview I believe you're referring to on ExtraTV? Guy's advice includes moderation, "You don't have to eat a whole cheeseburger, just take a piece of the cheeseburger," work out, "At least four days of exercise," and awareness, "If you slow it down, eat in courses, your body, mind, stomach will catch up with this full feeling, and you won't eat as much."

Abel of Odessa, Tx wrote, "What does Guy's tattoo's mean? Are any dedicated to his sister?"

Our answer: Guy has a whole mess of tattoos. And yes, each one has special meaning. He's always been a fan of Evel Knievel and has a stars-n-stripes #1 in honor of him. He has tattoos for his kids, one in honor of his trip to cook at the White House, and yes, one memorial piece, based on Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" for his sister.

--------------------------------------------

Judi from Bellevue asked, "What type or types of wood is Guy's on set cutting board made of?"

Our answer: It's a cross cut walnut, produced by the Vermont Butcher Block. In earlier episodes, he used a 16" x 20" walnut end grain cutting board and a 16" x 20" cherry end grain cutting board by Ozark West.

--------------------------------------------

A fan from Mesa, AZ asked, "What was the website to see the pics taken after the show at the book signing with guy? Mesa Az 2011 Is it too late to still get a pic? I forgot all about it until I started reading his book today. I am trying his Bloody Mary Flank Steak"

Our answer: The site you should visit (if you haven't already) is www.guyfieri.com/guysightings. Hope your picture is there! And that the Bloody Mary Flank Steak was delicious!

Susan of Rose Valley wrote, "Lomo saltado - I tuned in late but it looked like he cooked the onions/peppers/tomatoes first and set them aside, then browned the beef, then added the veggies back to the pan. But the recipe calls for cooking the veggies and then adding the beef in to cook with them, which doesn't seem right (because it wouldn't brown as well). Did anybody see the show who can tell me which is correct? Thanks."

Our answer: That recipe can from Totally Time for Tomatoes on Guy's Big Bite? Click here for the recipe. You may also like to try this recipe from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives: Lomo Saltado. Recipe courtesy Cesar Izquierdo, owner of Taste of Peru in Chicago, IL.

--------------------------------------------

Sue of Oswego NY asked, "Has Guy ever been to a recommended Diner, DriveIn or Dive that was so bad that the episode was not aired?"

Our answer: Yes, it has happened. We've seen Guy tape in Florida, one in New York, one in Idaho whose episodes never made it to air. What went wrong, exactly, we do not know. Page Productions has the original film which never made it to The Food Network. By and large, these occurances are rare! The restaurants have been researched thoroughly so as not to waste crew resources.

--------------------------------------------

Nico from the UK asked, "What sneakers does Guy wear ?"

Our answer: Guy wears Globe shoes. Here's their website, www.globe.tv. Here's a clip from an interview - "Guy Fieri, on having 30 pairs of one-of-a-kind skateboard tennis shoes by Globe: 'Yep, my wife hates it. I have more shoes than Imelda Marcos'." And a line of Guy Fieri Globe shoes is in the works! Click here for the announcement.

--------------------------------------------

Lindsey from Florida asked, "is that Guy's real kitchen that he uses or is it just a studio kitchen?"

Our answer: Great question! And the answer is ... both! The red kitchen that you see on most of Guy's Big Bite is a studio kitchen. Episodes were taped at the Food Network Studios in New York for the first few years, then moved to a stage in Los Angeles. Recent episodes, however, are taped in Guy's backyard! This is, of course, the easiest way for him to stay close to his family.

Fieri's Fishin for Compliments (GI1013H)

Guy's Big Bite - Fieri's Fishin for Compliments - Aired 7/3/11

Guy Fieri celebrates the warmer weather with a whole grilled fish: He soaks striped bass in a citrus-cilantro marinade, then grills it until perfectly flaky and tender with plenty of lemon. Delicious just like that, Guy likes to serve the fish with homemade flour tortillas and crunchy Savoy Jicama Slaw, bright with shredded radicchio and tangy with Citrus Cumin Dressing. A frosty glass of Tequila Mai Tai Oh My, full of tropical flavors like guava, pineapple and Mango, is the perfect drink for this summery menu.
