Why did Guy change his last name from Ferry to Fieri?

The change occurred many years before beginning his FoodTV career. There are news articles going back to November of 1996 listing "Guy Fieri" (and not "Guy Ferry") as an owner of Johnny Garlic's.

Moreover, Fieri is correctly pronounced with a rolled "r," known to linguists as the alveolar trill, as in the Spanish, Italian or Russian languages. The best approximation for a rolled "r" by Americans and the English is to use a "d-" or soft "t-," as in Fieddi or Fietti. See trivia questions.

What does fieri mean? Where did the name Fieri come from?
In Latin, "fieri" - to be made, to become. Fieri is used as passive of facere, "to do." In Italian, the masculine singular adjective "fiero" means "proud." Feminine singular would be "fiere." When the "o" at the end of an adjective is changed to an "i," it implies the plural. So "fieri" is a word that implies "we are proud." 2. Anon 9:59, There is no Guy's Big Bite line of cookware available at this time. I've put in a request at the Food Network; give me a few days to get a response? And we'll see if we can't piece some things together.

Was there a particular piece that interested you?

  3. The entire set he uses actually. Its a stainless steel set with what looks like a brushed stainless bottom about an inch or so up the side. They're not listed on Food Network and I cant seem to find them online.

Thank you too for checking for me.

  12. FYI, you don't roll a single "r" in Spanish unless it's at the beginning of a word. Maybe you do in Italian, but not in Spanish. In Spanish, you do roll a double "r" in the middle of a word. Of course, Fieri is Italian.

  15. I really wish the food network would come out with a DVD of "Guy's Big Bite" episodes. Has anyone heard about anything like that?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anon 6:47, haven't even heard a whisper about it, although I think you're right; I think it would sell very well.

For the time being, the best you can do is to DVR the weekday afternoon episodes and create your own DVD of them.

I will make a prediction, though. Guy is currently working on his own cookbook of his own recipes. And Food Network is really good about doing companion marketing - if there will be a DVD of Guy's Big Bite for sale, I'd anticipate it's release to coincide with the release of Guy's cookbook.
