After a long hiatus, new Triple D episodes start tonight

It's been 16 weeks since we saw a premiere episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives; that time period has been filled with mini-marathons of reruns. But starting tonight, fans of the show will see new episodes for at least the next seven straight weeks.

Sep 12, 2011 - 9:00 PM ET/PT
Grillin' and Smokin' - San Antonio TX, Denver CO, St. Petersburg FL

Sep 19, 2011 - 9:00 PM ET/PT
Southern Flavor - San Francisco CA, Bradenton FL, Denver CO

Sep 26, 2011 - 9:00PM ET/PT
Gettin' Fresh - Boulder CO, Chicago IL, Norfolk VA

Starting in October, Food Network airs Diners, Drive-ins and Dives one hour later. Check those DVR settings!

Oct 3, 2011 - 10:00PM ET/PT
Homemade & Homebrewed - Chicago IL, Mooresville IN, Tampa Bay FL

Oct 10, 2011 - 10:00PM ET/PT
Latin Street Food - Chicago IL, San Antonio TX, Queens NY

Oct 17, 2011 - 10:00PM ET/PT
Slammin' Sammies - Virginia Beach VA, San Antonio TX, Chicago IL

Oct 24, 2011 - 10:00PM ET/PT
Global Comfort - San Antonio TX, Virgnia Beach VA, Chicago IL

The above episodes were taped when Guy Fieri visited restaurants in these cities between November 2010 and April 2011. Correction: tonight's episode is the last Diners, Drive-ins and Dives that was fully edited by Page Productions.

New episodes in Detroit and Vancouver were taped in August 2011 under the new production company, Citizen Pictures, which completed the editing process from raw tapes for the remainder of the 12th season.

  1. I feel bad for the three restaurants on tonight's show. They waited all this time and the production value was so poor. Who is this Citizen Pictures and do they have any idea what they're doing?

  2. Maria, it's my understanding that the episode on the 12th was shot and edited by Page Productions. The Citizen Pictures episodes start next week, on the 19th.

  3. Thanks Dora, but that was not what I've come to know from Page Productions. The music was off, the audio was off, and it just didn't sound right.

If it was produced by Page Productions, why didn't the credits come up?

  4. Dora - Other folks have probably told you this by now, but last night's episode was shot and edited by Page, but it was NOT finished by Page - so the music selection, sound and picture quality was all up to Citizen Pictures. And of course, we agree, not so good.

  5. As Vice President of Page Productions I would like to clarify that the episode that aired last night was not the version finished and submitted by Page Productions. For some reason, the audio track of the episode we submitted was replaced - and therein probably lies the criticism I saw posted on your blog. In producing DDD, we have always emphasized the sounds of a location to bring people into the experience - the clink of a fork, the crunch of a roll, etc. To that end, we would spend an average of 27 hours audio-sweetening every episode to make sure every sound could be heard. We also paid close attention to music selection and levels to help add excitement and even urgency to appropriate scenes. The episode that aired last night had obviously not been sweetened and music choices and levels were different than on the version we submitted. This is not to criticize another production company's choices, but after all the attention we have paid to producing DDD to the highest standard possible, we want to make it clear that last night's episode does not reflect the way we have produced DDD. And of course, we very much appreciate the fact that DDD viewers are so loyal and sophisticated that they appreciated the extra time and attention we gave every episode of DDD while we had the privildege of producing it.

  6. Roberta, Kari, thank you for the clarifications! You've illuminated so many details about production that the viewing audience typically never learns, knows nor understands.

And Maria, I too wondered about the credits at the end of the show. :)

  7. Thanks everyone for clarifying - I noticed the same issues. Definitely not a true Page production.

I guess Guy took the crew with him but forgot about the post-production people who make the show what it is.

    Too much bleach perhaps?

  8. Someone has jumped the shark...and his name is Guy Fieri.

  9. Anyone else having problems with their dvr/tivo device not recognizing the new episodes as new? They're not automatically recording because for some reason the TWC channel guide is tagging them with original air dates from 4 months ago? Is this a TWC southeastern US problem or are other people seeing this?

  10. Anon, oh for crying out loud! I'm sure that's what it was ... they were tagged with the original air dates!

Not sure, yet, how wide-spread the issue is. Will make some calls!
