First, a note to regular readers: my apologies for infrequent blogging. We're traveling quite a bit during these summer months, and access to the Internet is infrequent at best. Thank you.

The Humboldt County Fair announced today that Guy Fieri will host a special Opening Day event this year - a barbeque contest for local rotary clubs, with cash prizes. Plus witness Guy's donation to the Ferndale Elementary School of a new version of the “Awesome Pretzel Cart,” with which he began his career in the food business many, many years ago in Ferndale, CA.
The Fair's opening day is August 12, 2010 and continues through August 22. Visit http://humboldtcountyfair.org for more.

The Examiner released an interview with Guy Fieri today about the upcoming premiere of Minute to Win It summer episodes, Wednesday July 7, 2010.
When asked where Guy finds inspiration from past Game Show Hosts, he replied in part, "When I'm doing the show, it's really just the self I got. I'm just bringing what my mom and dad packed my bags. I think it's doing good -- I'm not trying to emulate, but you got to pay attention to those who influence you one way or another."
And on the similarities and differences between hosting Minute to Win It versus Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, "Food's not involved, there's more of a direct camera presentation that goes on.... If you highlight a restaurant and you let America know about their location, or if you win $125,000 at Level 6 or 7, there's a lot of similarities."
And on his Minute to Win It audience, "I tell my audience -- I have the best audience in TV -- this audince is like a title fight. There's tears in the audience 2-3 times a show because it's such an emotional situation." Which is nice, because many of the audience members are paid $8/hour to be there, answering ads on Craigslist.

There was a conference call recently with Guy Fieri and the press (no, self not included), so I expect we'll have more interviews to report presently.
Speaking of Minute to Win It, if you are interested in a 30-second Minute to Win It ring tone for your cell phone, just Email me and I can walk you through how to get it sent to your phone. I also have an 8-second Diners, Drive-ins and Dives ring tone (of rather poor quality, but it works). Just let me know.

A new one-hour television special distributed by Litton Entertainment, features "Culinary Rock Star" Guy Fieri teaming up with Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief Rosemary Ellis to cook up some delicious family-friendly recipes just in time for the back-to-school rush.
The release continues, the program "is available from Litton for broadcast during the July 13 - August 16, 2010 window." So at this point, we do not know exactly when and on what channel (cable or network) the program may air.
Of course, Guy and Rosemary Ellis have some on-air history together in Ultimate Recipe Showdown.
