Guy Fieri on dining in New York and beyond

Modern Luxury, Manhattan, asked Guy Fieri share to his favorite New York dining tips.

ML: How many pairs of sunglasses do you own?

Guy Fieri: I’m a collector, so I’ve got all kinds of sunglasses. I’d say I’ve got about a buck ten, buck twenty.

Guy gave a shout out to two of his friends' New York restaurants, Michael Psilakis' Gus & Gabriel and Mario Batali's Otto.

ML: Do you have a favorite diners or dives in the Big Apple?

Guy Fieri: I’m a huge Chinatown fan. I love Tasty Handpulled Noodles (1 Doyer St./Bowery)—it’s the bomb! There are so many great little restaurants and unique places here. There’s such an opportunity to find places that will just blow your mind.

Guy recommends Di Fara's for pizza and Buon Italia in Chelsea Market for their "killer cold cuts, salumi and cheeses."

ML: Enough about New York. If you had a plane ticket to go anywhere in the country solely to eat, where’d you go?

Guy Fieri: I’d go to Salt Lake City—they’ve got some pretty bomb food. San Diego is pretty outrageous, too. Boston—man, I love the food in Boston!

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives visited the Salt Lake City area (see list) in May 2008. Six restaurants in Salt Lake were featured, and one just a few miles north. It was at The Red Iguana in Salt Lake City where Guy coined the phrase, "Love, Peace and Taco Grease!" Quite a number of recipes from the Utah locations are also featured in the book More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Read DeseretNews article written shortly after the book was released.

Six San Diego restaurants have been on the show (see list). Triple D has traveled there three times now; expect more.

We've seen eight restaurants from Massachusetts on the show (see list), two of which were in the city of Boston and two others nearby. Production of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives has visited the Boston area twice, once in 2007 and again in July 2009. Rumor has it the show will be back in the area, north of Boston and into Maine, taping new episodes this month.

Guy Fieri will be in Boston on June 4, 2010 for a Tom Brady's Best Buddies tailgate party. See link below.

Speaking of Boston, Minute to Win It has an open casting call for anyone interested in trying out for the show.
