Avila's in Dallas on ice until further notice ...

The Dallas Observer recently reported some family squabbles among the owners of the popular Diners, Drive-ins and Dives restaurant, Avila's, in Dallas Texas. Yesterday, they reported that the restaurant is closed, building gutted of equipment, and the Avila family embroiled in suits and counter-suits.
Late Sunday night, Ricardo Avila -- who has been more or less the face of his family's 25-year-old restaurant for years -- went in and gutted the place, going so far as to cut a hole in the wall where the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives plaque had been hung following the restaurant's appearance on the Food Network show.
The article went on to say,
There was a court hearing scheduled for today, following Ricardo's filing a restraining order on February 9. That hearing was canceled Monday, but Octavio and other family members say another suit's on the way: Anita is suing Ricardo "for defamation," says Octavio, who insists he's "heartbroken" over the events.

On a much happier note, Guy Fieri continued to take in ice events at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C. He was sighted at the U.S. Hockey game vs. Norway, where Team U.S.A. won the match, and at the men's figure skating event, where the U.S. won gold.

Go Team U.S.A.!

  1. This is a very sad turn of events. I was at Avila's about a month ago--the food was outstanding, including the best (pozole) soup I've ever had. Most important in this situation is family reconciliation, and, perhaps, seeing them come out stronger on the other side.
