Take it from Kathy Griffin, eat at Johnny Garlic's

Johnny Garlic's in Santa Rosa, CA got a nice shout out from Kathy Griffin on Twitter:

@KathyGriffin: Wow! If u want great food, do like I did & run to @chefguyfieri! Team G @ Johnny Garlic's...

While in Santa Rosa for a performance on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Wells Fargo Center, Kathy Griffin and her entourage were treated to a 10-course meal, served by Guy Fieri and his staff.

For more on Kathy Griffin's tour dates, click here.

Johnny Garlic's currently has three locations: in Windsor, Santa Rosa and Roseville, CA. A fourth Johnny Garlic's, at Hacienda Crossing in Dublin, CA is under construction and scheduled to open in Spring, 2011.

A few of Johnny Garlic's unique dishes include:

The Grilled Onion Tortilla Stack, a Fieri Family Recipe. 12 layers of flour tortillas, with a mixture of caramelized onions, garlic and balsamic aioli. This dish was featured on the Sangria Shrimp episode of Guy's Big Bite.

The Hunters Creations are a rotation of exotic game and 'Off Da Hook' seafood, brought in daily and prepared by Johnny Garlic's culinary leaders.

Finish your meal with the mouth watering Breath Mint Pie (recipe), an Oreo cookie crust with junior mints tossed in mint chip ice cream. This dynamite dessert was seen on the Camp Cookoff episode of Dinner: Impossible with Robert Irvine.

Tex Wasabi's currently has two locations: in Sacramento and Santa Rosa, CA. The Santa Rosa location has been closed since the Fall of 2009, due to a broken water main that destroyed the floor. A series of difficulties with city building permits has delayed the remodel and construction process, but a recent update from Tex Wasabi's management states that the Tex Wasabi's in Santa Rosa is now under construction and slated for opening in early Spring 2011!

*Update* Tex Wasabi's in Santa Rosa is now open for business. Click here.

Featured at Tex Wasabi's:

The Bourbon Street Hurricane has Cruzan Estate Light Rum, orange and pineapple juice, grenadine and a float of Don Q Rum! This is a sure way to celebrate Mardi Gras without leaving town. To make a hurricane at home, try this one from the Guy's Big Easy episode of Guy Off the Hook.

Word on the street: a Guy Fieri signature restaurant will open in Las Vegas, NV sometime this year. More as we hear of it.

-----------------------------------------

Also, tune-in to The CBS Early Show between 8:30 and 9:30 AM EST Monday morning, January 31, 2011, to watch Guy Fieri cook up some game day inspiration with RITZ Crackers.

Guido Goes Garlic (GI0907H)

Guy's Big Bite - Guido Goes Garlic - Aired 1/23/11

If you know Guy Fieri, you know he loves his garlic. Today, Guy goes crazy for the clove with this garlic-centric menu, starting with a suprisingly mellow Roasted Garlic Soup. Served alongside crunchy Asiago Crostini, this smooth puree is the perfect way to prepare for the main course. Chicken and the Bodacious Bulb is 10 pieces of juicy chicken, seared in garlic-infused oil and then drowned in a gravy made with about 50 cloves of garlic. For dessert, Guido's Classic Tiramisu offers a sweet retreat from the garlicky goodness.

Happy Birthday Guido! Sweet 16?

Today is Guy Fieri's birthday.

The Daily Meal recently named America’s 50 Most Powerful People in Food, defined as "in the food world, the people with power are the ones who affect what and how and where and why we eat — or who can, if they want to.

"The Daily Meal editors collaborated to assemble our initial list, then added and subtracted, fine-tuned and developed."

Guy Fieri is listed at #16, noting his successes with the second season of The Next Food Network Star in 2006, his current three Food Network shows, as well as the NBC game show, Minute To Win It. "His very visibility makes him a major player in the food scene."

Guy's birthday celebration can only last the weekend; on Monday, back to work at "Minute to Win It."

WOW gala, plus Guy Fieri salsas and BBQ sauces

"Guy told 500 people at the Tocchini family’s 3rd Street Cinema theaters that WOW (Worth Our Weight) founder Evelyn Cheatham beat the odds by creating a high-quality training restaurant at which none of the staff is paid and the patrons receive no check, just an invitation to donate.

'I think the original name of it,' Guy said, 'was HOW?'"

So starts an article in Santa Rosa's Press Democrat.

$10,000 in tickets sales alone were raised for the organization. WOW apprentices served food at Sunday’s moviehouse gala and Guy previewed the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives” episode that he and Food Network produced on Worth Our Weight. The episode showed on TV for the first time Monday, January 17, 2011.

Guy Fieri's company donated a pretzle cart to WOW's organization.

Worth Our Weight was featured on the Funky Finds episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, premiered 1/17/11. Click here to view Youtube video!

------------------------------------------------------------

On Monday the 17th, Guy Fieri and his company attended the NASFT and Fancy Food Show at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, to introduce two new lines of Guy Fieri salsas and BBQ sauces, produced by Gia Russa via John Zidian Group.

Formal release dates of these products are TBA.

YumSugar.com was on hand and reports that Fieri's salsas come in four flavors (Original Salsa, Salsa Verde, Chipotle Salsa, and 4 Pepper), as do his sauces, which are available in Kansas City, Bourbon Brown Sugar, Pacific Rim, and Carolina #6.

Triple D increases biz in Connecticut

The New York Times recently ran an article about Connecticut restaurants that have been featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives."

Michael Young, owner and chef of Valencia Luncheria in Norwalk, CT said that in the two years since the first of about two dozen showings of his segment, business has doubled for his Venezuelan beach food specialties.

The downside, of course, is that the restaurant has lines that can be 100 people long. Mr. Young is now exploring expansion opportunities.

Ed Wilson, of Wilson’s Holy Smoke BBQ in Fairfield, CT said that his restaurant's success, after having aired multiple times on the show, has him thinking about opening another restaurant and trying a television show of his own.

O’Rourke’s Diner in Middletown, CT was one of the first featured Connecticut diners. “At one time, everybody who walked in here, I knew something about them,” said Brian O’Rourke. “There’s days when there’s 40 people in here, 30 people in line. I don’t know anybody.” And to accommodate the increased business, Mr. Aitkin had to add staff and two tables.

Gary Zemola and John Pellegrino, owners of Super Duper Weenie, had heard the stories but were still shocked by the impact of Triple D.

“The first couple of weekends after it ran, the line would go out the door down the side of the parking lot and to the street,” Mr. Pellegrino said. “It had to be a two-, three-hour wait.” Business has stayed up 30 to 40 percent, and the catering operation is now four trucks.

Two additional Connecticut restaurants have been taped for short segments, though the show’s host, Guy Fieri, was not present: Corey's Catsub and Mustard, due to premiere on February 28 and the Merritt Canteen, scheduled to premiere on March 21.

Mark Dissin, VP at Food Network, was recently recognized as a 2010 French Culinary Institute Outstanding Alumni Awards recipient for professional achievement. He said, "Guy [Fieri], like many of the hosts I work with, is incredibly talented. He was born to perform, and I tell people all the time that if he were born in the middle of the 19th century, he would have figured out a way to make television shows. People tend to underestimate how difficult it is to cook on camera. You’ve got to describe processes, tell stories, manage hot equipment, and do it quickly and efficiently, and most intimidating of all you’re doing it in front of a big crew and for a home audience of tens of thousands. Anyone who thinks fronting a cooking show is easy is completely bonkers."
